Maybe because Mark Rushworth said that Apple puts prices higher for Macs v.s. PCs, when comparing prices for the iPhone...

It's the data, man. Think of the DAATAAAA. Data is, like, heavy. And stuff. And we're going to, like run out, man. PEAK DATA, MAN. In 2050, we'll have no data, and you'll know who to blame, you greedy buggers using data-guzzling gadgets like its 2008.

Yes... it's our generation's fault: food crisis, global warming, and now data crisis too... who knows what could happen next.

Dont forget the male vs. female is our fault too.
along with rising oil prices..

My work will be buying all of us (10-15) iPhone's 3G as we are a big Apple IT integrator, and one of the bigger Apple resellers. My iPhone's screen is cracked, and bits of glass are flacking off, so I am actually genuinely hanging out for one. :-)
The biggest thing for me is getting e-mail on my phone, and Visual Voicemail, the first I can do with a 2G phone, and I hear even though we have the most expensive plans in the world, we don't get Visual Voicemail.
I've just changed jobs, so still figuring out which way is up, but I'll be interested what price we can buy them from at Renaissance wholesale.

Let's be fair folks. If you don't want to pay $250 a month, just get a You Chose plan with less voice minutes, and an appropriate mobile broadband plan.

Or is everyone here looking for a $199 iPhone?

We are looking at not gtting shafted for broadband plans! 200mb for 30 dollars are you kidding!!!

I'm sinply looking for a better deal. Currently my base plan is as such

$224.95 You Choose 600 anytime minutes to any NZ number
$20.00 Family Unlimited national calls, video calls and TXTs between four people on You Choose or Supa Prepay.
$29.95 Your Time 300 300 minutes to any NZ number during nights and in the weekend
$12.95 TXT 600 600 TXTs to any NZ number
Monthly Total = $287.85

When I was in America, I could buy a $50 plan which had Unlimited national calling, data and text. That about $70/NZD.

I'm simply sick of being ripped off, and from the advertising I saw from Vodafone though we wouldn't end up as the most expensive country in the world for mobile calling again (or in the top %)

I just want a good deal, pricing nearer the middle of the OECD.

Sorry if someone has suggested this earlier, 27 pages is getting a little long.

These plans are IMHO tantalisingly close to being good.

The key is in the data allowance.

If you replaced the current allowance with my suggestions below I reckon most people would be pretty happy,

Now, don't these suddenly look better?

Rushworths comment about data is pure bunkum. They offer 3GB for $10 (with the double your data insurance). Data is clearly not the money maker for them, it's voice minutes. Look at the you choose plans shoot up in price as you add more minutes per month.

I will struggle to justify signing up for the $80 plan as it stands and wouldn't even consider the other two.

Prices for the units are about right I reckon though. It's the best iPod ever made + a phone for crying out loud. Of course they should practically be giving it away to anyone who is willing to fork out $250per month!

So close vodafone, so close....

contents insurance should cover your broken iPhone. worth looking into.

Vodafone shouldn't have used the previous head of ihug as the head of marketing. That was a terrible move.

Is this the first time anyone has cracked into Mark? If not, he should step down - this is going to ruin Vodafone's image deeply.

Actually, I believe one of the reason Vodafone waited for so long before announcing their pricing is to get around possible "punishment " from APPLE as they reportedly did to Rogers. Surely Vodafone have received their allocated shipment by now 2 days before the launch.

Data is the prime money maker for Vodafone at the moment. The aspect mentioned by Mark - international transit - is no more expensive if the data is being used on an iPhone or a home broadband connection. Excess data is as low as $1 per GB - the amortisation of network costs (salaries, hardware, etc) which is shared with voice and SMS revenue can in no way get close to explaining the difference.

That would make things ~~better~~ suck less, but the subsidies should still be better priced, or maybe more flexible.

I have a talkZone 33/33 from my company, so they pay for the plan (around $100 total). I do not want to pay $1100 for an iPhone 16Gb AND add some mobile data plan for another $30 bucks just to get it going on my plan. I'm happy to re-sign it, but I still need it to be on talkZone.

When Vodafone offers me a 16Gb on my plan for less than $600 bucks, THEN I'll be happy. (Which probably means never).

Thanks for posting that clip from Campbell. It was absolutely fantastic to see Campbell make a dog’s dinner of Mark Rushworth. While I don’t need/want an iPhone, I am pretty disgusted at the pricing VFNZ have adopted. It will be very interesting to see how this all plays out and whether Voda will drop prices or add on other freebies to entice users. I wonder how many they will sell over this weekend!

I also don't get the deal over the actual cost of the device - surely it's the iPhone plans that have the biggest cost repercussions to the consumer? I guess that it could still be an issue if you weren't on an iPhone plan and instead opted for a You Choose plan.
