digimoo:  I'm typing this on an Apple and will probably get a 1st gen iphone if I can still use casual data.
sorry.

I don't get the obsession for the current casual data offering!

$1 10MB reset daily... over that it's $1 per MB
by the time you realise the first day blunder you have probably spent $15
30MB and you are already up for $21.. that's nearly the cost of a 200MB plan

Full page browsing on iPhone will gulp megabytes and has already been stated that googlemaps is a hog.
Unless you restrict email, and use mobile specific web apps... you are at risk of huge bill shock.

In comparison with the plans you can get 200MB for $30 at anytime in the month, or $50 for 1GB at anytime in the much
agree these are still EXPENSIVE, but nowhere near as expensive as the $1/day plan

Not defending VF as I think the data aspects are outrageous and out of touch with their customers' needs, however put a pragmatic view on what is suggested.

Aaroona: True, however, you are forced when you want the iphone but not the plan, correct?
Want and Force seem to be a contradiction.

But I think thats the point of the plans, my friend.

So they look a LITTLE better than not having one..

The dearer the better, remember ;) (Please do take note of the sarcasm, I clearly am just pulling your leg, ATM)

At $1 for 10MB thats 300MB over a month for $30 the same cost of the 200MB plan.

What's 10MB? A map a couple web pages. Seems like a pretty good deal, that's probably the 'obsession'.

Matt, for those of us used to conserving our mobile browsing already, the new casual rates are fantastic. For those that want to buy an Iphone for heavy web browsing and music streaming, not even 1GB of data is doing to cut it.

The point that is trying to be made here is the device is a game changing device, especially with regard to mobile internet.  The pricing of the plans as they stand, will prevent this from happening in New Zealand to any great degree.

you seem to have a bit of a hook into the inner workings at vodafone,

is there any internal acknowledgement that the plans just aren't quite right re the data allocations?

any?

2 potential iPhone purchases in this household lost at present.....

a turn around is possible....for VF? Undecided
flexibility in data package would be a clincher for many, small/casual and large data plans.

Looks like one country listens to there consumers.  Canada apparently have revised there plans after public complaints, come on VF do the right thing admit you may have slightly over prised the plans or increase the handset discount slightly.  More info about the Canada changes http://www.reuters.com/article/technologyNews/idUSN0934568020080709

Me too. My wife and I were up for buying two iPhones on Monday and none at present!

Can anyone tell me why there are several countries in the world where unlimited data (for as little as NZ120/month) is on offer yet it is not available here at any price?

If the government are so keen on NZ being competitive and are willing to invest in broadband (and lets not even get started on how poor that is here!) then they need to realise that mobile comms are a huge part of the world outside and make moves to bring NZ in line - at least with Australia, if not with the US/EU.

I would have thought that giving the regulatory framework EU-style teeth would be a good start. The next thing we know they will fully nationalise Telecom and re-name it "Kiwicom"!!

We do not have unlimited mobile broadband here for the same reasons we do not have unlimited fixed line broadband in NZ.

I'd appreciate 6GB of data like the Canadians are getting now, but I dare not think of asking for unlimited.
