manhinli:
Just because the iPhone doesn't support 900MHz 3G, doesn't mean that 900MHz UMTS won't be supporting HSDPA.

Optus and Vodafone in Australia have a 900MHz 3G network, which also is unable to be used by the iPhone 3G for 3G connection, which will run on the 2100MHz 3G network, which has also been criticised for the small coverage.

I quite obviously missed out the "the iPhone" bit there, which I added afterwards. This is, after all, an iPhone thread. That was also the gist of my previous posts.

At least in Australia you can understand the desire for longer range coverage. We're not so spread out. Getting back to what I quoted from the vodabot conversation, the setup costs in NZ should be cheaper. There's no excuse for such gouging.

I was quite backwards in my initial post but the end result is Vodafone won't be doing HDSPA in outlying areas.

Where are you getting your facts from?

Every single 3G cell in NZ is HSDPA and soon HSPA and this includes all future 3G cells

Please before coming and posting pure BS check your facts

GizNas: After posting on this link, I did feel much better inside.

http://vodafonenz.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/vodafonenz.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php

A nice place to rant to VFNZ I guess, maybe with the vast amount of complaints regarding the pricing of the plans they may see the light? Who knows, but it would do more good than anything.

I found the link from here:

http://www.vodafone.co.nz/help/complaints/#

I wouldn't waste your time - Mark Rushworth has proven that Vodafone NZ isn't interested.  But how about complaining to Vodafone Group itself?  Surely a complaint to people there would get them to sit up and take notice of the "golden child" of the Vodafone group destroying it's reputation?

Will take a bit of time. I guess by then we might have the 4 or 5G iPhone already and we all forget about this story.

I'm sure if we Kiwis make a scene, Apple atleast will have to notice. Let's not forget the Rogers story.

JoeBloggs:
SphinxNZ: Ok, question for you all, how much do you think Vodafone is making on the plans/Iphone? Do you actually believe that vodafone is raking in millions and millions on these? Because the reality is the polar opposite! Im not gonna defend the plans or the phone, because well im not a huge Iphone fan, (or apple for that matter) and i really love my N958GB.  But Im just curious to hear how much you guys think Vodafone makes?

This was posted in another thread:

http://www.vodafone.co.nz/about/company-information/company-facts-figures.jsp

It states that Vodafone has 2,244,000 users as at 30 December 2007, each spending $46.05. This equals $103,336,200 per year. I'm sure some more knowledgeable users here can give accurate figures on how much expansion and upkeep costs. Also remember that with the recent aquisition of IHug their revenue source is infinitely bigger.

You + maths = fail! Smile

The $46 is per month. VF's revenues for the year are well over $1 billion, having surpassed the $1 billion mark in the 2006 financial year from memory.

I posted this in another topic, but with the amount of views this topic's getting I'm sure I can get a quick answer.

"A little help!

This is my would-be You Choose 20 plan:

Choose 20 20 anytime minutes to any NZ number $19.95
BestMates 1 Talk, TXT, PXT and Video call to 1 Vodafone NZ mobile number within NZ $6.00
TXT 2000 2000 TXTs to Vodafone network mobile phones $9.95
Bonus Offer Handset Discount ($40-100)
Extra National Minutes (2-10)

If I purchase that along with the broadband 1gb plan, for a term of 24 months, would I get a subsidy of $230? With a monthly payment of $85.90?"

jmcollis said that "Yep, that's what it seems."

So I would get the subsidy off the price of the standalone 16gb making it $900 or will I get it at near or less the price if I had gone on the iPhone 250 plan, which is $700? Seeing as I'm paying for $6 more than their 250 plan, and I'm staying on term for the same amount of time (24 months), I'm hoping that somehow that makes me elligible to buy the 16gb iPhone for $700 or less. If so that would be an instant buy for me :D
