We established various pricing plans based on voice, txt and of course mobile internet – each of which offer a subsidy on the rrp. On our iPhone 250 plan the subsidised cost of the device is $199. With this plan you get 1Gig of data, 600 minutes and 600 txts. In the absence of having all the information some people assumed they would get the phone for $199 on a $30 monthly plan. The reality is this is not commercially viable for us.

1. iPhone 250 does not have 1GB, $199 subsidised handset cost, and everything else that only iPhone 1GB has.

2. "is not commerically viable for us" - to a point yes, but we didn't ask for the best subsidies in the world, we want good value monthly plans.

The plans have been developed based on the usage of the existing iPhones (2G) that we have on our network. As you know we have a 3Gig 3G Broadband plan in the market and based on uptake and usage of our existing plans we may open this to the iPhone.

3. People out there (who were, as Mark Rushworth had described as people who used this "as their sole means of accessing the Internet") would definitely like that, but don't slap on ridiculous pricing on it.

Wellington CBD / Wellington as the whole no longer has ANY 16GB Iphones, I think this may also strech to NZ Wide, not sure.

Based on past retail experience with Apple products, now that Vodafone have sold through the first batch of product, (which was probably rather underspecified for the demand anyway), there will probably be a 2-3 week (or more) wait on more stock to come into the country.

O wow.

So i rang Vodafone 777 all week confirming that if i bought a iphone outright i would have no issues. ( am already on a corporate account with 200mb data plan ) They all told me, ya no issues - you have data plan already.

So i rock up this morning buy my iphone. Then ring to get the APN loaded on my account...and then the fun begins.

I have talked to like 5-7 different people. Some say i need to be a on a iphone account. Some say no issues, just need APN loaded. Then some are saying - no you need to sign up to a 24month data plan...

NO ONE has a clue whats going on in vodafone, bunch of monkeys.

I HAVE ALREADY A DATA PLAN. I AM ON A COROPORATE ACCOUNT. PUT THE FREAKING APN ON MY ACCOUNT so i can use it ffs.

Haha, oh dear. It seems they only loaded the necessary priviledges onto the new 200MB and 1GB term data plan assets. This may need to be corrected by the IT guys.

They have just uploaded the APN to the list recently I think, talk to customer service and request they find the APN www.iphone-vodafone.net.nz about half way down the list (it's not alphabetized for whatever reason), and allocate it to PDP slot 3.

Yes, I think it's plain to see that there have been some issues within VF getting the correct information out to various channels.

I had a poor experience trying to even buy an Iphone to use on a corporate plan :(

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

i'm still a little p'd off about the price tease, but i'm starting to get over it. lets hope there are some good deals by christmas!

TradeMe message boards seem more like an outlet for middle age housewives and those of similar ilk. If TradeMe could get rid of them, they would.

Apparently lot of hassle for them with people ringing up complaining about posts etc they don't agree with. But at $1.99 a minute, that's there lookout.

All it takes to get voted off on the TM boards is express a dislike for kids or side with a business that has allegidly screwed some dumbass over. Virtually any sense on those boards is treated as if you are trolling... Much better on here ;)

Hey guys, back again.
Just been to the Vodafone store and had a chat to one of the people there.
I was indeed told that if you were to buy the phone for $979, it would accept prepay sim cards.

I'm actually not sure at all if this would work.
Could someone please try it? I really need to know if it actually works.

(sorry if this has been answered earlier, but I really don't want to go sifting through 40-something pages)

This may be a cause of at least some sympathy for those in the UK - or maybe karmic payback for getting such sweet plans! It is from the Daily Telegraph website.

"The launch of Apple's new iPhone 3G descended into chaos as customers faced long waits to register their new devices.

The worldwide rollout, which took place at 8am local time across the globe, saw hoardes of fans queuing outside Apple, O2 and Carphone Warehouse stores, eager to be the first in Britain to get their hands on the device.

But as the computer system of O2, the exclusive network carrier in the UK, buckled under the weight of traffic, customers at around 1,300 stores were told they faced a wait of several hours before they could use their new iPhones.

O2, which has already said some customers may have to wait until the end of the summer to buy the new device, said it was working flat out to speed up the system."
