Hi,

If it helps...I believe it will work on a pre-pay SIM (or any sim), but I "think" you won't have the 3G data (only WiFi etc) but that's the bit you need to check.

I wonder if you can add the data plans to a pre-pay account like a best mate etc? Not sure!

Just been to the Vodafone store and had a chat to one of the people there.
I was indeed told that if you were to buy the phone for $979, it would accept prepay sim cards.

I'm actually not sure at all if this would work.
Could someone please try it? I really need to know if it actually works.

(sorry if this has been answered earlier, but I really don't want to go sifting through 40-something pages)

Yes will work with VF Pre-pay card. However data will NOT work.

Vodafone stores will sell outright to anyone. When asked do I need anything, id etc,.... nope just an eftpos card. You can purchase without a plan.

You need to change the apn to use it on prepay... but you cant??? Vodafone haven't locked it have they?

According to the Apple help site, the APN may be locked in certain regions - NZ is one of them, confirmed by NZ iPhone owners here.

Yeah I don't know enough about this. Will it work but just not be capped, or not work full stop?

As with iPhone 1.0, it seems that jailbreaking might be the only way to use the phone in a functional way that YOU want to.

They have locked the area where you change the APN, it is able to be changed by VF NZ though for corp. plans etc

It is unable to get a packet data connection through the iphone APN. Im in that boat as I need to get it changed to use the corporate plan APN which is supposedly going to be possible next week according to the VF guy I talked to whilst waiting in line

What would you feel about paying what Vodafone is offering is AUS?

Like i'm probably talking more in the terms of their plan structure. Where if you pay say $30 a month, you will get $150 credit to use on Calling, texting, voice mail, etc. (Not an acual plan, but it shows the basic layout)

Do you like the sound of this structure compared to our current one? I personally think its time for Vodafone to make major changes, and make it more like those plans offered by their other Vodafone provider next door.

Anyone agree?

Yeah, I think that's caught my eye. Was you can do what you want with it. Whether you send more texts one month or you call more another month.

Its definitely a lot more flexible and I think more practical.

I'd say Vodafone would get a lot more PrePay if not more On Account customers if they did this.

I wonder if this idea has been proposed to them lately?

I wonder if that would even consider it..

The mobile providers in Aus offer very convoluted plans as a rule, and it is difficult to compare to what we have here (or anywhere else). Ultimately they offer good value, but it almost always causes a brain haemorrhage when trying to work them out.

The 'credit' they offer is nominal, and the charge per 30s, have flagfalls, etc.

It'll require at least Telecom, if not another GSM Telco, before the competition forces the incumbent to change.

I would rather just see a decent assortment of addons available, like the youchoose ones, but being able to buy them whenever and say they expire after a month, and there is an option to have them renew automatically when used up, so if I buy 300 offpeak mins for $20, then I get to use them till either 300 mins is up or they expire, then I get to buy it again, not like this youchoose crap where there is only one per month and once its run out your back on the crap rates that come with the main plan.

Point taken. It took me a little longer to get the gist of it.

I wasn't exactly saying they should take what they have in AUS and copy it to NZ, though. I mean they should have a structure that kind of resembles what they have, because to me, I think most of their plans are of better value to here in NZ. and I know you said it wasn't exactly comparable. But Personally, I think they are at least somewhat comparable.

yeah true. I guess I was looking at the same thing though, I think the issue with VFNZ is flexiblity then pricing. Or possibly the othe way around.

But looking at the AUS plans, I cant say im not at least a little jealous. I mean, I would actually be alright paying their iPhone plan of $69. While it is yes, about $7-$8 difference to our lowest plan here, it is also includes other options as well. Where you can choose to have an extra 100 VF2VF minutes (free)
or 1 free best mate,
or 100 free texts, among other options.

I think it all leads back to flexibility.. I could be wrong, but thats my opinion.
