I have had it work before, but today when I went out and fowarded my italk to it (used it in the past since noone will be calling it so I know any incoming calls are costing me) - but people calling got an invalid number message in the vodafone voice.

Dialing it from both italk and 2talk gives the same thing, yet it can call out and present the number (didnt want to answer since it may be $20 depending on who I believe at vodafone)

No credit on the prepays to try calling it from one of them, but its worked in the past from other mobiles.


So, Should it work? Should I call vodafone and log a fault? I dont want to put a plan on the phone because I refuse to enter into a term and vodafone dont offer no term voice anymore.

AFAIK the data sims should have voice bars activated, but if this is the case you would hear "This mobile is unable to accept incoming calls" not that the number doesn't exsist

Actually it may be a telecom voice thats telling me that its not a valid number since its telling me to include an area code, for example 03

It shouldn't accept incoming calls as the correct assets haven't been installed on the connection. There is an easy work-around however. There is a 'Base Plan' hidden in the list of available plans when a Vodafone employee first activates a connection. If they select 'Base Plan' instead of 'Broadband Everyday' (or whatever your plan is) and then add the data as an add-on, you will retain full voice and text rights on the account. This is, however, not a 'supported' plan so you'll need to find either a gullible sales person or be very persuasive.

It should also be noted that this method doesn't allow for a subsidy as you normally would with a vodem or data card, though doesn't lock you into a term. Preferable to some, not to others.
