Often i lose sales because the person wishing to switch to FUSION and port their numbers has a monitored! can monitored alarms be plugged into an SPA2102 and run over a VFX line? I realise there is an issue that if the internet or power goes off so does the monitoring of the alarm.....

It depends on the panel type.

If it uses the ContactID protocol and has a rock solid internet connection and uses then it can work well. ContactID only sends a series of DTMF tones.

There are other alarm protocols out there however - many are essentially modems that establish a dialup connection and these will not work.

Your best option is to move to a ethernet based monitoring solution, AlarmNZ sell an ethernet adapter that plugs into the phone connection on a ContactID panel and converts this to ethernet so it can just be plugged directly into the router. They also support IP based monitoring which most other alarm companies don't do.

If it is self-monitored, i.e. just calls the persons mobile phone, then this should work. As Sbiddle says, AlarmNZ have a module for retro fitting to an alarm dialer. I was able to give my customer a payback period for the extra cost to upgrade their alarm.

They were paying $45 per month for alarm monitoring. Now they pay $15 per month for a semi-self monitored solution: i.e. the alarm is monitored via IP to monitoring centre, but if there is an activation, the customer then gets a text message notification, and can then race home with a baseball bat, probably quicker than a security guard can get on site :)

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their xDSL broadband network faster and even more now as they are upgrading their rural Conklins. If your still stuck on ADSL or VDSL, why not spend $195 on a master filter install to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?
I install - Naked DSL, DSL Master Splitters, VoIP, data cabling and general computer support for home and small business.
