I signed up for VFX this week, and since my SPA-2100 isn't on the list of supported devices I lied and said I'd be using asterisk.

I've used the same device on sipphone, fwd, and various asterisk installs without ever having any issues, and figured all I really need to know is the proxy, user ID, auth ID, password, and perhaps a few other trivialities such as the allowed codecs (g729a), method of sending DTMF (AVT)...

So today I got those details, put them into the web interface and it works perfectly for recieving calls. Good sound quality, voice goes in both directions, etc

But I can't dial out at all.

Any suggestions?

The asterisk profile is different to the SPAxxxx profile. Therefore it is not guaranteed to work.

My understanding is that the Asterisk profile it tied to Asterisk - ie if the VFX system doesn't see the call originating from an Asterisk box then it won't process the call.

Bloody annoying.

I have it working now; this time I said it was a SPA2102 (which IS supported) and after a few worrying minutes (upgrading the firmware? This might brick it.. and it's on loan, not actually mine!) everything now works as it should.

I do intend to get the officially supported and recommended ADSL2/wireless/ATA hardware when I have the funds. At which point I guess I have to phone and update the MAC address again. But for now this will do.
