Hi everyone. I know this gets asked a lot, but there doesn't seem to be a very satisfactory answer to the question.

If I'm on a prepay account, I can't currently switch to an account plan and keep the same number.

Does anyone know if the reason for this is a technical one ( in which case it may be possible to fix), or if its a political reason ( which won't ever be fixed).

it is not possible to switch from Vodafone Prepaid no to On Plan without changing number. Shame and you thought it would just be as easy as changing a few settings on Vodafone network eh?

that's not the case, sorry.

The Prepay and "On Account" connections are both handled by different billing systems. While in a perfect world they should talk to each other, unfortunately in ours, they don't.

I remember 5-6 years ago when working for VF getting told the whole issue would be resolved "next year." "Next year" still hasn't arrived it would seem, the in store staff are still been told the same thing.

I was wondering what the reason for this was though. As someone else said, surely it would be in their interests to move people.

There must be some kind of unique numbering in the sim card that could be transferred over ?
Even if there were some kind of technical overlap issues, they can't be impossible to overcome.

Thanks for the reply - I saw it after replying to the other post.
Its still not a very good reason though.
Its more of a "we can't be bothered re-entering the details into this other system" answer.

Telecom will let you move your number between platforms at the drop of a hat, so they dont deserve a spank in this thread...

It's been more than 5-6 years. When BellSouth launched prepay ('97 from memory) it was supposed to be happening "within the next year".
