I'm so fed up with VF webmail. Not connecting, not loading, writing an email and then freezing etc etc. I'm wondering if it'll load better if I access it from my gmail account. In the gmail settings it looks like you can do this, but it's not working for me.

I'm pretty sure I'm using the correct server settings: pop.ihug.co.nz port 110.

It's not working and I'm not sure why. Is it just VF webmail being crap again?

Has anyone made the VF/ihug/gmail thing work?

Can anyone help?

You can use gmail to check just about any pop email account, it's pretty much the same as using Outlook, just web based.

Is your email address on the ihug.co.nz or vodafone.co.nz domain?

It's on ihug.

All I get is:  There was a problem connecting to pop.ihug.co.nz

Another thing to note about using gmail to check your POP mail is that email on the POP accounts within gmail do not arrive in real time, they only arrive when gmail checks for messages on the server which varies depending on how often you receive mail on that pop account but generally it will check for new email every 20 minutes or so.

You can manually check for mail on the server by clicking on Settings -> Accounts and Imports.

Hot Choc for me please.

I use isp mail because I dislike alternatives like gmail and I am too inept to be able to set up my own.

Only people inferior to you, obviously.

Vodafone email servers have been suffering outages for months now. Sometimes they say its a problem with RAID, sometimes server software.

My recommendation, for serious users (non-casual home users) would be to just setup a Google Apps account, Windows Live Domain, or something else and use it.

I always recommend people get off isp provided email as it acts as a lame lock-in that prevents people from changing isp as often or as easily.
