OK, so that confirms that you are infact in an ADSL2+ area but not within the 10Mb/s expected performance range, infact around 3km from the exchange, does that sound right, remember the cable is normally significantly longer than the drive, pity you missed being on a cabinet.
Regardless you should be able to achieve 3Mb/s of TCP throughput, if you get significantly less than that then there is issues outside of your connection.
Yes 3km sounds about right. I do sometimes get some good speeds for downloading but sometimes not. Usually I notice it is during peak times where it slows down. Especially whem I'm on the ps3 playing online.
The issue was with youtube video buffering which annoyed me because I went to my friends place and it buffered so smoothly that I realised there is something wrong with my connection not you tube.
The other issue was gaming. Playing games that required high reaction times on a slower connection.
Is there any other advice I could take or request? Or do I just have to sit it out until Telstra rolls out their own equipment at the exchange?
I upgraded from one of the upload restricted PDQ plans to the full speed new HomePlan packages (Call Local) and noticed a considerable improvement on latency when gaming Lesta.
I'd suggest you try switching plans firstly, and ask for interleaving to be turned off, if you see no improvement then you could consider looking at another ISP after that, but until you've tried all solutions you could just be going down the same path.
Cyril: Friend with Telecom.. But if it is true that my exchange is congested then no matter what ISP I switch to, I would have the same problem as everyone uses the Telecom Exchange don't they? Except for the Telstra Cable service?
Simcore: Yes I may have to switch to their new plans. But data is more expensive on them. Wish I had switched earlier when they had their max/max on their PDQ as data was cheaper. Even the basic phone line was cheaper.
I won't be switching ISP because from what I gather I have been told that it is the exchange that is congested and no matter whom I switch to will still be using Telecoms exchange. Correct me if I am wrong.
