I am getting the above message every day - probably every third or fourth text I attempt to send.  I am using an iPhone 4g.  My wife uses a 3G and a couple of friends are also using 4G's.   We are all experiencing the same issue.

Another mate is using a 4G but he's with XT and has never had the issue.

It seems that the texts actually get through - so I get the red exclamation mark next to the text and the "Unable to Activate Cellular Data Network" message, which leads me to believe the message did not send, yet it has, so the recipient gets the message twice.

This happens anywhere in the country - I travel around NZ a lot and don't see it as isolated to one area.   Given other friends with iPhones have the issue, perhaps is a 4G thing?

Anyone else having the same issue?

There is no such thing as an iPhone 4G. I assume you mean iPhone 4

Hi John,

I don't have another phone that will take the micro-sim. Given my wife has similar issues with her 3G and my friend has a 4 also having the same thing, I'm starting to wonder if it's a firmware issue.   I have tried a network settings reset to no avail so might give a full phone restore a go to rule it out.

Once again, it seems the text gets through, but with this message I'm unsure so send it again...

I do note that when the message occurs, the signal meter goes to zero and 3G symbol disappears for several seconds then both come back.

I'll try and find a phone to try my sim in..

Cheers

Yes it does.  Just been up at Omaha which seems to have better 3G than where I am in Pukekohe, and it seemed worse up there..

If you want you can try your iPhone (3G, 3GS or 4) on XT to confirm.

SMS 'SIM' to 466 (20cents) and take the voucher to your Local Telecom Store with your iPhone.

This happens to me all the time as well. Mainly in low signal strength areas. Really annoying. I'm using a 3GS with latest firmware.

Happens to me on XT only if service is very marginal. If you are getting it everywhere you must have reception issue. Do you have a metallic case on the phone? Someone on iphonewzealand had poor reception issues and turned out to be a metallic case blocking signal

I've had this happening to me over the past 6 months with an iPhone 3GS. I actually thought it was a phone issue, and got it replaced under warranty. The next one did along the lines of the first issue, I thought bad luck I must have got a dud replacement. Third one still does the same thing. Have got new simcard replacement from Vodafone too. Something has happened in the new firmware for iPhones combined with Voda's network. I leave mine on 2G network now and that is normally pretty good, and only activate 3G when there is really good signal - otherwise I get OP's problem with no IP address being given to the phone.
