I had my ATA linksys go bung today so I was forced to see if i could get cipsimple working with Italk and I did!

If I get enough requests I will do a step by step guide but not going to bother in case I am the only one in NZ using it

For the record, this setup also works well with VFX.

I think running VoIP on smartphones is really handy but how do you find the quality of calls compares with your ATA?  There are obvious advantages to using VoIP on a mobile device, but I've found the call quality to be much lower than a standard phone/ATA over the same connection.

I found it subject to heaps of dropputs and audio artifacting when I tried it on my old android phone. even the fritzfon app is pretty hopeless compared to a dect handset or a phone on the analog port of the router.

I would have to agree with those comments of the dropouts switch offs I didn't really notice a great deal of difference re quality of call But it will not be something that i will use regularly as calling and making a connection with out a 404 error coming up or something else would eventually end up with the phone embedded in the wall.
This leads to whether i really need a land line phone at all.
I haven't completely decided yet but I am a bit loath to fork out another $80 on a ATA unit as I only got 6 months from the last one and it seems to have gone bung!
The amount of phone calls I make and receive over a land-line phone is small maybe I will look into redirection to a mobile
I will let you know how I go.

I'm currently in the States for three weeks, and using my VFX account here to chat with my partner and staff.  The quality is pretty good, you just need to find really good wireless.
