Hi Guys,

Got a customer currently using Phonetray to receive caller ID notifications to their computers however we've switched them over to VoIP. While the Phonetray app works well over the old Dialup configuration to the Analogue ports on the PABX we would like something a bit better than that, something to get the caller ID notifications over to all the computers when the phone rings.

Soooo.. Any Suggestions?

You need integration with the PBX solution.

Probably have to use TAPI if it is an older system. What brand/model is it?

Edit: Just had a think, how clever are you? If the client is with 2Talk you can make up a little app that pulls info from the reception console. That displays CID for each line.

It is through a Cisco PAPT so nothing really complex, simple really ;)

So no PABX? Just analogue phones directly on to the ATA and the connected to the VoIP provider? Who is the provider? Like I said above, 2Talk have the reception console for real-time status of lines. Could just pull info from that.

The device is completely irreverent since this is incapable of integration. Any such feature needs to be integrated with the platform you're using.

When I switched to VoIP I faced a similar problem. Don't know if my solution is applicable to your situation but here goes.

 

My background is that I was using Tapirex to throw up caller id's on my computers. I liked this program because it had integration with WMC and would throw up a caller id on the tv. Also, it would open up the contact in Outlook. With analogue phones it got it's TAPI stuff from a modem.

 

When I switched to  VoIP I spent hours on google trying to find a way to get the TAPI stuff to Tapirex. I stumbled upon the Ninja softphone which does this. It also keeps a record of call history which can be handy.I just use the trial version with all the volumes turned down, specifically for caller id. I don't use it as a softphone as there is a little nag played after the trial runs out. All good until I accepted an update for the program and the TAPI got broken. Turns out the later versions of Ninja don't have TAPI enabled in the trial but with a bit of sleuthing I found that the old versions are still available for download on the Ninja site and I reverted back to ver 3.9.8

 

Anyway, sorry this has been so long-winded. Hope it helps someone.

Actually that's a good point......

Again, if the provider is 2Talk, you could use One Number to log a softphone in to the lines. X-Lite does screen popping for inbound calls. It would display CID.

Not sure about the PAPT, but some ATA's can do it. Whole lot of call monitors for Fritz!Box's available. Trying to see if it'll work with my (older) model.

That seems like the perfect solution actually! How does this work, like does PhoneTray detect Ninja as a device or something?

FYI: Not using 2talk, using Vibes VoIP service which does support more than one device on the same account but doesn't have a web interface.

Yes, Ninja becomes a device and is recognised automatically (don't ask me how, it's all a bit of a mystery to me). The limitation with using phone tray is that you are going to need to install ninja on each computer and they will all have to be registered as separate devices (SIP wise). Tapirex is installed on one computer as a server, then other computers on the network connect as clients - up to 20. In this setup you only need to instal one instance of ninja, and only need to register one device. 

In 2talk you add extra devices with the same number from the web-based control panel by adding suffixes (-1, -2, etc) Don't know how you achieve this with vibe.

Sorry that last bit is not quite correct. You enable 'one number' in the 2talk control panel by selecting a checkbox, then you register your devices by adding the suffixes in the devices settings.
