Hi,

 

I'm having trouble calling a specific vodafone number from a 2talk account.  The vodafone number is (02104XXXXX).  

 

This number does not match my dial plan, so requires me to wait a few seconds, or to press # to make it connect immediately, however this is not a dial plan issue as it also doesn't work from a SIP soft phone. Either way, waiting or dialling # at the end will cause me to get an "invalid number" or disconnected tone.

 

I can however get the number to work successfully if I add any single digit to the end. eg: 02104XXXXX1 and 02104XXXXX9 will go through to 02104XXXXX.

 

I can also call the number from a Spark landline and a vodafone mobile.

 

Of note is that in the number registry (NAD?) both 02104 followed by 5 digits AND followed by 6 digits are both valid numbers.

 

I've spoken to a friend/contact at Vodafone and the call doesn't even get to Vodafones network which makes me think this is a routing issue at 2Talk's end.

 

This is starting to get really frustrating, but before I really start pushing 2talk for a solution, is there anything else I should be checking?

Is the number even active on Vodafone? It could of ported to another carrier

I've popped an email to my colleagues at 2Talk to have a look.  At least you have discovered a good workaround in the meantime :)

If you're on the Vodafone network yourself, you can txt the number to 300 to find out if the number is on the Vodafone network.

 I've just tried this from my 2D number and it also works.

 It doesn't matter if it's been ported or not. If you can call the number successfully from VF and Spark then you should be able to call it from 2talk too.

 

 

 

The correct procedure to resolve this issue is simply to raise a support ticket with 2talk and include as much information as you have with us, except you should also include the full complete number (not obfuscated with Xs). It would probably also be helpful to include the exact date & time of an example failed call, and the SIP registration you were using when you did the test.

 

Since ubergeeknz has been kind enough to start a backchannel request for you, it may be as simple as just waiting to see what they say via him. However don't be surprised if they come back asking for confirmation of the full number.

Thanks.  I got back "02104XXXXX is not currently an active number on our network" so I guess it's been ported.

Hi Again,

 

My colleagues at 2Talk have asked if you can please raise a ticket and provide some (recent) call details - time, number called, and outcome, so they can look into it for you.  

 

It does seem to be a problem affecting either just you or this specific B number, since they can see that other calls to that range with the 5 digit length are going through okay.

 

Do let me know your ticket # via PM so I can forward this on & ensure the right people have a look.

the * meaning any number of digits after the 02

 

i know it worked for me in asterisk a few years ago for re routing calls through a gsm gateway

* is not a wildcard in any piece of VoIP hardware I've ever played with. Typically speaking X. or combinations of is used as a wildcard. Using a * just pattern matches a * dialled on a phone.
