I have several LevelOne VOIP 7000 phones (sold in some markets as the Samsung TW-5101).

While I'm able to easily access the standard web interface using the factory user name "root" & factory password "root" these phones also have a telnet interface.

I'm curious to check out the telnet interface to see whether it offers any options that cannot be set via the normal web interface.

I've checked all the user documentation and the LevelOne & Samsung web sites without success to try to establish what the telnet username & password is.

Can anyone help ?

Did you try a username of "Root" and password of "Admin" (without the quotes)? Could be worth a try. I am not sure if these are case sensitive or not!

Yes,  I had tried various combinations of user/password such as

root/root
Root/Root
root/Root
ROOT/root
root/admin
Root/Admin
ROOT/admin
ROOT/ADMIN
admin/admin
Admin/Admin

etc etc

So unless I actually missed one of those out.....

Ummm, ok try the obvious "Root" with "Password", "Root" and no password at all.

I thought I tried root with no password,  but I knew I had not tried root with "password"....  anyway I just tried them both without success  (including various combinations of upper & lower case)

While it is not an issue that is critical,   I would like to solve the mystery...    Laughing

Well according to the manual from here: http://www.levelone.eu/support_download.php?searchdl=VOI-7000&srch_all=1 the default usrename and password is "root" and "root" for the web server. There is no mention in the manual for Telnet settings. are you quite sure that it has a Telnet server?


The manual does explain how to reset this device, could be worth trying a manual reset in case the Telnet password has been changed. Alternatively, there are a number of these on Trademe. Perhaps a message to the seller asking if they can access Telnet on one of their devices might shed some light.

There's definitely a telnet server function,  there is even a passing mention of it somewhere in the documentation I have,  but there was no login details given (only the login details for the web server function),  the following is the dialogue:

telnet 192.168.0.60
Trying 192.168.0.60...
Connected to 192.168.0.60.
Escape character is '^]'.

IP phone -122M :CLI
Login:

As I said in one of my earlier posts,  it's not that important,  more curiosity than anything...

I might contact the NZ distributors on Monday to see if they can help.

I asked the local distributor for the username/password and they confirmed it was the same username/password as the web interface root/root,  so this time I tried from a WindoZe PC and was able to connect.

It turns out that for some reason or other,  my Mac did not want to talk to the VOI-7000 using telnet.
