Might be a misleading subject - I have Vista but was having some problems with crashing and locking up so I installed my old XP on the same drive. I reinstalled Vista(which takes years with service packs!) and got it working fine so deleted the XP folder. But now I've got the bootup with both Vista and "previous version of Windows" showing, is there a way to edit a file to get rid of the "previous version of Windows" entry? Thanks

Yes. This should be reasonably straightforward using EasyBCD. Its is free for non-commercial use upon registration. It can show you the bootup entries and allow you to delete the redundant one.
