That's because the 6600GT is a beast of a card. It had DDR3 RAM when most cards still had DDR or DDR2 if you were lucky.

I was getting 4.9 with my old 6600GT AGP, so I assume a PCIe one would correctly get higher

hey guys ... what's the difference between "graphics" and "gaming graphics"? the latter seems to always be lower than the former. is the latter based mainly on how much ram for graphics?

Well I decided to make the switch from AMD to Intel.

Picked up an Intel Q6600 and Gigabyte GA-N680SLI-DQ6 for rather cheap, this is the result:

How about this for a laugh...

Graphics RADEON 9800 XT 2.9
Gaming graphics 191 MB Total available graphics memory 4.4

This came about after updating to Catalyst 7.8. Normally the Graphics rating is well over 5, but after the update 2.9. What is really funny is that after first installing the Catalyst drivers (then 7.6), both Graphics and Gaming graphics ratings went down from those using Vista's own native driver. Not only that, there was a noticeable decrease in performance, even with tweaking the settings for performance in the Control Center. However, after updating to 7.8, and aside from the laughable decrease in rating, actual in-game performance has improved markedly and is finally on a par with the native Vista drivers. Perhaps one of the recent hotfixes has done something?
