guys i was wondering if you could help me with this problem

I have windows XP Pro installed as my os and always wanted media centre on my system but didnt want to pay for it so around a year ago i came across a program wich apparentley would change my system from XP Pro to Media Centre Edition 2005. as you have probably guessed it didnt work the link is posted at the bottom of the page if you would like to take a look at it but it is a torrent. but as i cannot get it to work i cant even get windows media player 11 to work with xbox live as i go to the xbox website it is telling me that i have media centre edition and need to install roll up 2 i attempt it but it says its not installed is there any way that i can get this removed from my system or would i have to restore a all together now if this is the case is it possible to restore without losing all the files on my computer??? as i have put all my music collection from cd and onto my computer and thrown away the cds to save space

Any Help greatly apprriciated

That link looks highly suspect and definetly illegal to use.

What you have is a half baked operating system. It cant update to rollup2 because parts of it are borked.

I would advise a reload of your operating system (god knows what spyware etc came in with that torrent). Why not try the windows 7 release candidate while your reloading things, in which you will get a legal version of windows media centre (of course you will have to make sure you meet the system requirements).
Out of curiosity, what parts of media centre do you want to use? Recording and watching live tv? Or just watching movies, looking at pictures on your machine etc?

You threw all your CDs away to save space?

Now I have heard it all.

I would install Windows 7 Ultimate RC, which you can use legitimately until ~March 1, 2010

backup your files. then reinstall the operating system or use a restore disk that came with the computer if nothing else works.

or do what ragnor says - that sounds like a good idea if it allows you to!

but please backup your files first whatever you do.
