Well thats the end of Beta 2 for me. It does not allow Xbox media centre on a modded xbox to connect to network shares on your vista machine because vista has an issue with samba. this means I cannot access any of my music or video which is all stored on my PC.

From a quick google it seems that both the developers of samba and vista are both claiming that its the other sides fault. Just hope this is fixed in the final release.

Hmm, seem to remember I was able to hook up earlier Vistas to Samba. Can you upgrade your version of Samba or not?

cant upgrade as it is part of XBMC and I'm no developer! if it is just a version issue then I'm sure the XBMC team will update the app to handle it.

What version of XBMC are you on?

Have you set the NIC/network that Vista & Xbox are connected to, to be "private" and to "enable discovery/sharing"

Cheers

Do you have the latest release of XBMC? I have no trouble at all accessing my shares with vista.

Im running XBMC _CVS_ 666 (6th of June 2006) and I had it set as Nathan suggested above. I can see my PC in the workgroup but when I try to access it asks for a username and password - no matter what user I use it wont connect.

ahh, ok... how do you have your shares setup?  I noticed that you can't share the whole drvie that windows is installed on, you need to setup folders to share...I.e. I have one for TV epps, one for Movies and one for Music etc. Hope that helps.

Make sure your account has a password, accounts with no passwords can only be used on the localhost, not across the network

Also sometimes you need to enable the "Guest" account - (not sure if vista has this) - I had that problem once with XP.

created a user account with password and added it to both the share permissions and the folder permissions no joy.

Could it have anything to do with not having a password set for the administrator?  mmmm might try that tonight.

I can access all of my shares from a XP notebook. All shares are folders i.e. video, music etc.

Have you tried, pointing XBMC directly to a shared folder rather than just viewing the workgroup?

Hi,
I had the same trouble, running a version of XBMC at least 6 months old, and Vista Beta 2 x86 (32bit) but after searching high and low, I noticed that a few people had reported success using a program called ccXstream (h**p://ccxgui.xboxmediacenter.de/download.html)

I downloaded v.1.41, installed it, added a couple of shares, and strated the service. I then edited the following lines in both the
