Hi,

Apologies if this isn't the right forum for this, but I need help.  On our Imac, we have 2 accounts.  Mine which is an admin and my partner's which is a user.  Everytime she logs in or uses safari she gets the keychain popup.  It bugs her to death and I want to know how to get rid of it. For some reason I can't work it out.  Curiously, I don't get the popup at all.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Regards,
Alexis

Hey Alexis,

I can help here - unfortunately if you partner had any saved username and passwords for websites or applications then she is going to have to enter them all again or reciver the passwords on each individual website. The keychain stores all saved usernames and password but can only ever be unlocked using the original password. If you don't know what this is then unfortuantly there is no back door to unlocking the keychain (not even for Apple Authorized Service Providers).

Follow these steps below and it will create a brand new blank keychain for your partner:

1. Log into affected user account
2. Click on "GO" in the finder menu and select "Home" (this takes us to the individual users home folder)
3. Double click on the "Library" folder
4. Double click on the "Keychains" folder
5. Inside that folder might be a few different keychain files, but the on we want is "login.keychain" - go ahead and rename this file to "login.keychain.old"
6. Quit all applications and then log out of the user
7. Log back in and open Safari, navigate to a few website and all should be well now :-)

Hope this helps you, if it doesn't then I might need a screen shot of the error message. To prevent this happening again if you want to change a password for a user you should always log into that user and select "Change Password" from the account preference rather than changing it using another administrator, if you change another users password then it old changes the login password it does not sync the keychain password also.

=)
