Ahhh, TradeMe. A brilliant place to search for the hard-to-finds, and also an excellent place to offload what you no longer need.

However, is it me or do really really really dumb people lurk around TradeMe? This isn't TradeMe's fault obviously, but over time I have noticed there seems to be a high concentration of time-wasters or those wanting to pick a fight over the silliest of things.

So, let's share your most 'memorable's stories! Laughing Also a good chance to let off some steam. Of course, please don't put any names / usernames or personal details here. Keep it confidential guys.

This is oven fresh, literally still hot.

Bidder put a bid over the reserve price. This means it's even harder to make a 'mistake bid' as you would have to physically type in bid amount. Auction ends. I receive an e-mail to say he had made a mistake and has no idea how it happened. Lame excuse in my opinion. Gave bidder an appropriate negative feedback. Received negative feedback from the bidder (unsurprisingly). Bidder then proceeds to threaten me with the tax office (wtf?). Then says I am using the iPad to e-mail and so he thinks I never intended to sell it (wtf? Can't people have more than one iPad at a time? Is that the law?).

Well done TradeMe though. Gave them a call and voila, negative feedback removed. Very professional customer service rep on the line too.

I want 3 hours of my life back! Tongue Out

If I had a penny for everytime that happened, I would be richer than the 25 million dollar Lotto winner right now.

Or people complain about the freight price after the fact - when it is clearly stated on the auction. Ahhh...

I had a bidding war between 2 people for a SE mobile phone that I was selling and then the winning bidder wanted a discount for it when they came around to collect it.

I spent around 10 minutes saying no to him ... was very close to telling him to buggar off.
The guy was from a certain country that starts with an A and obviously bargaining is a way of life there.

I was once had a guy pay TWICE the winning price for an item when he came to pick it up. He paid with a shiny $2 piece and didn't even want any change!

My worst ever TM experience came when I did a buy now on a genuine piece of tech gear . The guy emailed me and said it was out of stock and he would supply it in a month. I said no, I needed it immediately. He then said he could give me an aftermarket bit of kit. I didn't want that and said I'd pass.

He gave me negative feedback and wouldn't change that unless I went through with the trade. I contacted TradeMe and they couldn't understand that a cheap clone wasn't the same as the genuine article. In the end I had to suck it up but it really annoyed me at the time. He has become a high volume seller with quite a decent number of negative feedbacks.

I don't buy or sell on Trademe because of not wanting to deal with this sort of thing, but some time ago I was browsing the used cars and one particular ad had attracted the following question:

"I am wondering how economical this car is. Can you tell me how much money per week you spend on petrol?"

Bought a microphone cable off TM and ended up being couriered two by accident.  Informed the seller, said I could courier one back, the told me to keep it as a gift from them to me.

Not an amazing value, but still nice to get something for free.

Was selling a portable alarm system, sent winning bidder payment info etc. Paid after 2 weeks.... sent item via courier (signature reqd) - 2 weeks later buyer asks where item is (so, one month after auction end...) - checked with courier who advised noone ever answered door so they left a card etc. Buyer denies cards being left and hes home all the time. Courier tried again and same issue.
Finally someone signs for item. Months later I get a negative feedback from buyer with comment of "item just arrived - seller full of BS about noone home - I have camera at home and no courier turned up" - so how did the item turn up.... and months later ? I return his negative with my own.... blacklist him.
Then he replies to feedback by saying he had a funeral to organise BEFORE buying item - so GTFO Trademe. Pulls similar story MONTHS later on other sellers inc making one guy lose $80 on courier fees due to all the fudging around.... TM FINALLY disabled his account.

My best purchase (that I can think of recently) was for a steering wheel set for my PS3 - $19.20 :D Score! :D

Sometimes it just isn't worth fighting to have an unfair feedback removed. I am sure most people would realise there are enough idiots out there to ruin the fun for the majority so a couple of negatives isn't too bad.

Hahahaha, I certainly hope the seller gave a 'smart' answer. No wonder people are in such debt when money-related questions are of that calibre!

@nate: that's a score and good on the seller for just letting it go!

@xpd: like you, the 'failed iPad' bidder changed his excuse from "I made a mistake" to "I thought it was iPad 2" when the auction clearly stated first generation.

Seriously, they need to realise one day all these actions will catch up with them.

I had a "parts wanted" ad.
Guy rang me up, I paid, never recieved the item.... he went to jail over xmas.
He scammed me and 15 other people to the tune of $8k
He was 17..

Was on Stuff.co.nz when he got sentenced to a year inside

edit. TM sent me an email warning me that someone had looked at my ad that was a scammer.
I emailed and told them, yeah, I know, he scammed me and I reported it to you... Only then did I get a reply.

The New Plymouth police were good tho.
