Bryan Adams - Spark Arena

7.5/10 pretty good concert, he was here to tour his new album but spent most of the time belting out his old hits which would have pleased the crowd. He's very affable and his voice is mostly just as good as I remember. I particularly enjoyed his solo bits, really showed his voice.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Spark Arena.

9/10 - Was a great concert, the act was in line with what you would expect from the guys, even after all these years! Played all their hits and a few new songs like Dark Necessities and Go Robot. Few old classics like Californication, Scar tissue. I was so gutted they left out Under the Bridge but they played that on Saturday when my other friends went. If anyone likes I can upload the first 10 minute intro!

Saw the Prodigy last month out at Trusts Arena - I got a free VIP ticket and am really glad I went - huge energy and a great crowd. Sad to hear about Keith's passing, glad I got to see him.

Eagles last week at Spark - good show. The replacements for Glenn Frey were great (his son Deacon, and Vince Gill). The band sounded great, Joe Walsh was a highlight for me. over two and a half hours, and knowing pretty much every song (they played material form the solo careers of Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Vince Gill as well).

Isle of Wright festival 2010.
Sister worked for video production company so had _all_ access pass.

My other half said how she was talking to a lady who looked just like Kate Moss, queue my sister rolling her eyes and saying "Well she would look like Kate Moss because she is Kate Moss"....

Arctic Monkeys at Spark Arena last week.

Was in the pit with my two teenage kids. Sound quality was rubbish (support band were horrendous) and there were far too many drunk males for my liking.

I'm 6'5 and grew up watching football in England in the 80's so I can take care of myself, but these guys just don't care what they do and who they elbow in the face. Saw multiple arguements with blokes pushing passed women into spaces which didn't exist to turn around and abuse them until they left.

I'm all for having a bit of a thrash but have some respect for others.

Had an absolute blast once it settled down though, as did the kids.

[e] forgot to mention the unbelievable usage of *&(*&(% mobile phones to video the show. Spent the first 20 minutes pushing phones out of my face, just enjoy the show for crying out loud.

Phil Collins in Christchurch. What a show! Amazing. I am still buzzing.

The Brass was fantastic and his son is a great drummer esp given he is only 17!

Wish I went. Phil's touring band members have been performing with him since 1985. The only difference being Phil's son on drums (normally Chester Thompson). He started playing for Phil when he was 15! So at 17 he's like a touring concert muso vet!

Check out Phil's concerts from 2004, his 4 year old son is playing on a small kit backstage at every gig.

Bryan Adams last night in Wellington.

Great fun. Modest crowd so felt quite intimate and he's very good live - better, I think, than in the studio. Highly recommended.

I've seen a few concerts in my time and the quality and enthusiasm of the acts were quite varied...

The first concert I saw was Dire Straits in the 90's and I found Knopfler to be a disappointment - he didn't seem to be that interested and was going through the motions - I also saw Michael Jackson in the 90's and his show was very good (not a MJ fan really)... Saw Billy Joel and Elton John together and good - Elton was certainly the better of the two I thought... REM - average...

Roll the clock forward to this millennium... Meatloaf was dreadful, Pink (Funhouse) was excellent - one of the best concerts I've seen, Pink again (the most recent tour) - not as good but still good... I've seen Queen and Lambert twice and been impressed on both occasions - May steals the show every time, and Lambert is good enough to carry it off - he isn't Mercury, doesn't try to be Mercury and is noticeably different in sound - and so he should be...

Venue wise - Spark Arena isn't acoustically great if you're not directly in front of the stage - and it doesn't have the ambience than the traditional outdoor venues offer. A good example of that was Pink (Rod Laver in Melbourne) vs Pink at Spark Arena - No contest...

Anthrax/Slayer - Eventfinda Stadium, North Shore, Auckland - 15/03/2019

Great gig, small venue, passionate crowd.

Approximately 4000 people there. Hard fast and heavy, as you'd expect.

What I did not expect was the diverse crowd.

I thought I'd be among the older folk there (49yo): I was wrong. I was right in the middle. There were pensioners, children and young adults of every sort there...from the fairly unlikely to the classically bogan.

One of the few gigs I've been to recently where not a single person sat during the gig in the area I was in.

Anthrax were amazing - using the whole of the stage and getting the crowd whipped up. The War Dance they had going during Indians was frenetic (classic circle pit).

Slayer - they rely on the music and pyrotechnics and lighting to get everyone going. They tend not to run about and concentrate more on creating a wall of noise that can't be ignored.

Overall, despite the mixing being a bit on the poor side (therefore vocals being hard to distinguish) I'd give this gig a good 8/10.

Farewell Slayer. You did yourselves proud. Enjoy "retirement"...

I was at the Halestorm/Judas Priest gig on Saturday night. My sons bought us tickets for my birthday. They're 17 & 19 and have very little idea who Judas Priest is, but are Halestorm fans. We were trying for tickets to Halestorm's gig on Wednesday, but the all ages area was sold out, and 17 1/2 won't get into the R18 zone. Then the news that they were taking Ozzy's spot came out and we snapped up tickets for Saturday.

We were a bit disappointed that Halestorm were relegated to a 45 min opening act slot, they are an amazing, high energy band who definitely left us wanting more. The lungs on that Lzzy Hale are astounding!

Judas Priest had a full sized slot and a nifty stage set. I was wondering if Rob Halford would still be able to hit the high notes. Yes, he can, very much so. They played a wide selection from their back catalogue along with 2-3 from their new album (which is pretty damn good, classic JP). Glen Tipton doesn't tour since his Parkinson's diagnosis, but the rest of the crew are still going strong.

The Spark Arena sound is hit and miss, Halestorm's vocals sounded better than JP's, but all in all, a damn good show.

This is the time of year when I wish I lived closer to Aucks for all the Download Festival side gigs. It would have been great to go see Anthrax/Slayer as well, plus there's so many gigs for old bogans like me coming up in the near future (not just Metallica).

Overall, 9/10 If they'd given Lzzy and her crew an extra half hour, I'd have given 10/10.

I did feel Slayer was quieter, but didn't notice the mix.. I was somewhat pickled by that stage however. If the South was the stand on the left as you faced the stage, I was there pretty much in line with the front barricades.

Haven't been to it yet, but tickets secured to the next Queen + Adam Lambert tour. They are moving from arena to Stadium concerts this time round, so that should be interesting.
