Same vibe re Synthony for me.  Sound was ok at times, but lacking a bit at others.
Really wanted to get access to the mixing desk thoughts as at times during the actual Synthony set the orchestra was mixed way too low.
Synthony set was good. At times stunning, and at others felt a bit christmas in the park singalong performer.  Liked the two or so full orchestral sections as they sounded epic up loud and with a beat added.

We were in GA as all other zones are R18+ and I was there with my 16year old daughter.
We got right towards the front of the GA standing area, but that got progressively worse as the night went on.
Being a festival you've got people drinking all day and culminating in a mess at the end, plus the usual festival drugs floating all around.
Was up front to get a view but fell back a bit later to avoid the crush and madness, and that actually afforded a better view too.
The bank would have been fine for a view but didn't have the same dancing vibes.

Kora seemed well out of place.  Vibe suddenly turn metalish and given the event and surround dj focus that didn't land well.
Saw a lot of people use that as a toilet/meal break.

Lots of clean toilets, good food, weather held off for the most part.
I liked it, probably would have enjoyed it more if sounded a bit better, and less idiots but hey that's NZ these days.
Good public transport and organisation, though the bus dumped us all on the outskirts of the CBD (just past spark arena) which everyone onboard felt surprised about.  That was an odd decision.

I'd give a 7/10.  Would return but not until can gain access to a better zone, so that's two years until youngest is old enough now.

Something that doesn't seem to have been mentioned here is the "Come Together" concert series which is now in it's 5th year.  They basically perform an album in its entirety followed by other songs by the band they are featuring. The core band is incredibly tight and the many and varied vocalists all bring something new to old stuff.

i don't think I have missed any in the Opera House, Wellington and enjoyed them all.

We saw them in year 1 at the Civic.

They performed The Beatles' Abbey Road album and some deep cuts.

The "cast list" was huge and they were so good.

I'm not as keen on the three choices this year...would have liked to have seen them do the Fleetwood Mac gig, but it sold out very quickly at the time.

Live Rust isn't a favourite album of mine and although the Led Zep one is pretty good, it's still quite a while off and will likely sell out too.

I'm a mild fan of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, it's not my favourite.

That 80's Party - Powerstation Auckland

Dress up attempts 10/10, venue 10/10, vibe 6/10, music 4/10 and drag queen host 10/10

Never been to the Powerstation. I always went to the main stream night clubs and danced the night away so when a friend suggested going to this 80’s Party, we were in. Crowd turned up early and it was great to see all the effort put in to dressing up. Some impressive outfits. We were misinformed by some of our group that a band might be playing but it was a DJ all night. Full house, lots of singing but the music got painful as they did not get into my sort of dance songs enough. Even the classic Blue Monday lasted only  2min of its 7min 29sec greatness before they moved on. I checked my epic 80’s playlist and they did play 20% of the songs I have on it so at least we got some smiles going. Once they started repeating songs we were done.

Absolute value for money at $45 a ticket.

I saw a couple of car loads of pepople leaving the suburbs on Saturday evening all dressed up in neon and sparkles - wondered which 80's themed thing they might be off to - now I know!!

I'm all for a continuous improvement mindset.  Different perspectives helping to build an overall picture and all.

I'm also aware there's usually good reasons for most things, so understand if any issues I had in a particular space were already considered and due to factors I'm not privy to etc.

Alison Moyet, the Civic, Auckland.

Originally scheduled to be at the Town Hall and moved to the Civic meant not being able to choose our own seats as they automatically allocated them for the new venue. We ended up upstairs a couple of rows back. Almost a full house but the Civic were not good at getting people in the door. Sometimes they do tickets at the main door and that works much better than people queuing on narrow stairways to get upstairs. Seat location ended up being fine.

No support singer/band, Alison had two people accompanying her who both played piano and guitars. One was her producer. I knew what was coming for the set and enjoyed it a lot. A great performance and I enjoyed her stories about some of the songs. A good mix of songs with most being from her latest album. The latest album was a reworking of some key songs and two new songs. I really liked the stripped back, acoustic guitar and her voice, versions for two of the songs. Most reactions from the crowd were from her early songs and it was nice that she just gave a full set with no break.

She had a cold which from our point of view had no impact. We mostly got sound from the left main speaker were we were seated and I was annoyed at that for a while as would have preferred a more central surround sound. My wife and I thought the Town Hall would have been a better venue for the set style.

Overall 8/10 from me and 6/10 from wife.
