Hi, I am advising a friend who works at a uni overseas an academic is coming to Dunedin and would like a nice restaurant to sample NZ lamb and fine [wine].  Been a while when I was there.  Top rated places are cafes and bistros and different ethnic cuisine.  I came up with 12th placed on tripsadvisor "Bacchuus??  The other fine dining places were like 25th or lower down ... but then again the "Asian" was higher up but I felt that wasn't that great after returning back there from Wellington.  Somewhere in the CBD preferred prob due to the fact they might not have a car.

Cheers :)

Bacchuus is absolutely fantastic. I'd probably call it the best restaurant in Dunedin. I've had lamb before there and it was mouthwateringly divine.

We went to Scotia Bar and Bistro several moths ago and the food was fantastic and the service excellent on the night. They are located just off The Octagon so pretty well situated for someone without a car. They have their menu online and do feature lamb.

I thought their wine was a tad expensive but as I have some Scottish blood and retail wine in our shop I might be biased, lol.

Went to Bacchuus this time last year. Was told how awesome it would be, and came away a little disappointed. The food was pretty good, but when the Missus couldn't finish hers & they took it out the back to put it in a 'doggie bag' (hate that term), someone in the kitchen accidentally binned it.

If you go there, look for the little kilted scotsman on your table and give him a 'tip'. haha.

We walked there from town, wasn't really far as Dunedin centre is pretty compact.

I think if you don't get your hopes up, you wont be disappointed.

+1 to Bachus and Scotia. Also 2 chief bistro on lower Stuart street although that's more French. ( check menu online)

Pier 24 out by beach good but that's a 10 minute taxi trip.

A.

+1 to Bachus and Scotia, but also Plato great for food and quirkiness. taken many overseas visitors there and they love it.

Good luck sometimes to many choices.  Still miss High Tide
