Bought a game yesterday, advertised as cross-platform between Windows, Mac and PS4. Put it in my Mac and got told that my licence is only for Windows. Also didn't work on the PS4. Got a support ticket in, but I have a suspicion that they'll shirk all responsibility and that I'll need to fight with the reseller...

The work ethic of NZer's.

My turn to do the hiring for our little outbound call centre. Seek + Trademe ads. Plenty of CV's. Booked 8 or so interviews for last friday and today. Have seen two people so far. And both were late...

I get its a low paying, tough job. But do these people even want jobs??!!?! Or they are just applying because they have to.

... ok maybe not that small. But GRRRRRRRRRRR

You should talk to the guy doing my tree work about work ethics.

Born and bed kiwi, trained as a tree surgeon over 18 years in the US.

Best operator I've ever come across and I've known a few.

Still works alone because - and I quote - "young guys here today are the laziest, most irresponsible morons I've ever come across and I wouldn't let one of them near me with a chainsaw!"

Bung:

Are you referring to a variable speed sign? School zones without a limit change aren't conditional on signage, the 4km/h tolerance exists within 250m of a school.

Yes - tickets were issued for exceeding 40Kph between the VSS in the school zone, however one sign was not illuminated due to a long-term fault hence drivers were not slowing down from 50Kph to 40Kph in that direction.

Executive decisions made without considering the consequences... Repco today - went in to get some new wipers for the car. Someone made the decision to do away with the reference catalogue and manually match up the blades to those on the car. This would be fine if:

  1. You were in the actual vehicle at the time
  2. You could actually physically match up the blade through the packaging but on the REPCO brand you can't - the ends of the blades aren't easily visible (or they had some measuring instrument - which they didn't).

I decided I couldn't be bothered with all that malarkey so off to Supercheap I went - tablet mounted by the blades with the part numbers based on the vehicle - quick and straight forward.

Most makes/models can be done off the rego number on their Navigator parts search system.

Adult bullies!

So tiresome. But I do not put up with bullies, unfortunately for them.

It is interesting how they operate . Quite manipulative and cunning,  but as long as you enforce your basic rights they have nowhere to go. As soon as you make a concession they will pounce and try and exploit further. So don't make concessions to bullies , at all.

@Behodar Cross-platform in this instance might just be referring to the multiplayer. E.g. you can play your Windows version online with your friends who have the Mac version.

What game is it?

That's a common attitude - and especially from "tradies" who conveniently forget how gormless and two-thumbed they were when they started.

If you want to weep for humanity, read notalwaysright.com - it's full of stories of customers being bullies to get their way, and unfortunately most of the time they demand the manager, and the manager caves and rewards their behaviour with a discount or gift voucher :(

Final Fantasy XIV. The Mighty Ape product page doesn't say "Windows-only" anywhere, and every single other MMO that I'm aware of works across all platforms so long as you have an account. Apparently not the case with this one!

Unfortunately, sole traders have neither the time nor the money to employ people to train, especially in jobs where H&S is a critical issue. In this case, the conversation revolved around people who claimed to have experience already, not people who had just started out.

I had a similar conversation with a guy who ran a one man band landscaping firm. He had college qualifications in horticulture and so on. Every time he tried to find someone to work with him, he could not get anyone he would accept. Time keeping was apparently awful, random 'duvet days' with no forewarning were common - and two people used to disappear to the pub at lunch and return too boozed up to safely be allowed anywhere near power tools. Another actually turned up still squiffy from the night before and lit a joint before the day began - he was off site before the first puff!

It may reflect the small pool available locally. The Wairarapa is not Auckland so the number of available workers is far smaller.

But it is in the "PC Games" section, and under format it says "PC Games". PC is generally accepted to mean Windows when taking about software compatibility (although I concede that "Windows" would have removed any ambiguity).

Cross-platform is not the same as multi-platform. It does work across platforms, meaning you can play on your PC and interact with others who are playing on their Mac or PS4 (who would have purchased either the Mac or PS4 version of the game).

EDIT: Mighty Ape are usually pretty good, so I don't think you'll have an issue returning it (since presumably you don't have a PC to play it on).

EDIT 2: The Mac version appears to only be available as a digital download.

With most games I'd agree with that assessment. The Mac version is often from a different publisher and often requires a different version of the game (although this is gradually becoming less common thanks to services like Steam and GOG).

MMOs are (usually) different though; taking WoW as an example you buy a copy of the game to get an account, and can then connect to that account by using either the Windows or Mac client. Guild Wars is (or rather was; it's free now) the same; you bought the game for the account, which then worked on Windows or Mac.

FF14 seems to be an oddity here. In any case, I have a ticket in with Square Enix (who took 23 hours to send an automated email saying that they'd received it...).
