I decided to try something a bit different over the weekend. A restaurant in Auckland, Lillius (Toast) does a number of takeaway items of the more gourmet type. Sourdough bread freshly baked, Cultured Butter, Fresh Kingfish Ceviche, and other seasonal dishes. We decided we would try most items on the menu and spread the lunch over two days. I highly recommend it. It was quite fantastic and something even my young kids enjoyed.  I think it would be fairly perfect for a pre-prepared picnic of the more gourmet variety.

Peaches Hot Chicken in Panmure is easily the best place to get Waffles and Chicken in NZ. It's not even remotely close to the next closest competitor. Light and crispy Waffles, moist but crispy chicken beautifully fried, garlic butter and spiced Maple Syrup. It's exceedlingly close to the best I've had in the USA.

If you haven't tried this combination, I know it sounds odd, and the first time we tried it, was in a diner in the USA, and the waitress offered them to us, and when I screwed up my nose, she was so convinced, she said if we didn't like them, she would comp them. We ate the first serving and ordered a second. They are some kind of magic, especially when done right.

I'd love to be able to reproduce them at home, but I have tried and it needs a lot of work to get even remotely close. I'll keep trying.

Tried Peaches for the first time last week, its such a good combination and they do it extremely well

OMG I love that place. Glad you liked it too.  It's freaky deaky how delicious it is. I still haven't worked out how to get that butter whipped. Everything I have tried has been a miserable failure :)

They're pretty active on social media, drop them a question on it, odds are they will probably tell you exactly how to make it

Thanks. I hit them up. I have found most restaurants aren't willing to share much about their recipes, which I sort of understand, though I do take pains to explain it's not for commercial use.

I found this today and am keen as to try it.

Second to that, next time I'm there, and I live in Botany, close as, I will certainly ask.

Went to Kingi in the weekend. Attracted by it's sustainable seafood and seasonal hype. Ended up pretty disappointed. The Food was good, service was quite far below average (and I consider my self a person who doesn't really consider good service a particularly high priority). The food was tasty and reasonably original (cod wings were a highlight) , but 2 entrees and 4 mains to feed two adults and 2 kids (who eat like mice) was OK if we hadn't of all left hungry.

I don't get restaurants opening with seemingly untrained staff. Basic stuff like understanding the menu, or being able to answer basic questions about the food without needing to run back and forward to the kitchen. A warm welcoming smile, water to the table quickly etc (not all of those were specifically Kingi issues).

@hsvel Peaches got back to me and said they just whip the butter in a food mixer. They said to make sure the butter was soft prior. I am pretty sure I've tried this already, but perhaps the butter wasn't warm enough. I'll try again this weekend.

I have used this recipe to make naan before. Turns out as good as brought.

https://rasamalaysia.com/naan/

This site has lots of good recipes.  Malaysian food is an absolute fav of mine, I have about a dozen rasamalaysian recipes in my favourites bar.

Was reminded over the weekend of restaurant I really enjoy in Welly: Lulu pacific.  Pacific themed food.  The theme includes the wider Pacific, so it's broader than Pasifika cuisine.  They even do a whole suckling pig, which is great for a small crowd.

Have you tried Happy Boy in Royal Oak? They do great waffles and Burgers.

I am going to Panmure on Wednesday so will try Peaches Hot Chicken while I am there.

I tried Happy Boy burgers a year or so ago, I wasn't that impressed. They were OK. Probably because it took a while to get them home in traffic on a friday night they weren't their best. Perhaps with warmer weather we will try again and eat near by in a park or something.

Cake "Milky Way".

10 Milky Way candies (size 2.1 ounces).
1 3/8 cups oil
2 cups of sugar
3 eggs
2 1/2 glasses of flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon of soda for baking
2 teaspoons of vanilla
1/2 cup of chopped walnuts

sweets with 1/2 glass of butter. Mix until a homogeneous pastry mass is obtained and set aside to cool.

In a large bowl of sugar and 1/2 cup soften the butter or margarine until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one by one, stirring after each addition.

In another bowl, whisk flour and soda together. Add flour and buttermilk alternately in the cream mixture, ending with the flour mixture. Mix in a candy mixture and vanilla until well mixed.

Lubricate and place the flour in a Bundt saucepan up to a centimeter from the top of the saucepan. It is very important not to fat and flour clear from the top, it will run, make a terrible mess in your oven, and the cake will fall.

Bake at 325 degrees for about 60 minutes, or until the toothpick inserted in the cake dries.

Melt 3 Milky Way chocolates with 3/8 glasses of butter or margarine. Pour the frosting on top of the cake and let it flow down the sides. If desired, sprinkle the crushed nuts.
