She has no right of way when backing. In the photo it looks like there were tonnes of parks available.

I don't see the issue from your description.

Maybe she was having a rough day and needed someone to lash out at?

It intrigues me that the driver used the term "That was pretty f-ing arrogant". They are the Courier company that I encounter the most parked in mobility parking spaces. I explained once to a driver politely that they should not use these, I said to him you have a choice I do not, his response was that he was only going to be a short time. Now That was pretty f-ing arrogant.

What they don't get is they do have a choice, they can park elsewhere and run or walk with their parcels. The disabled do not have that option. We either have to find a another mobility park, not easy, or as in the most recent episode I had I had to go home as there were no other options. I cannot manage my chair on my own in a standard car park and most of these if I could manage to get into the chair do not have a chair friendly crossover leaving me to push myself down the road to find one all because some arrogant twonk parked where they shouldn't.

You're lucky the courier was at least using a car park even though it was one required by yourself. My local often parks right in the traffic lane of a busy intersection and unloads there to take parcels upstairs to offices. The road is double lane with angle parks to the left which are normally full. The right most lane is going straight through and usually backs up while the lane he parks in is turning left. What ends up happening is all the vehicles turning left switch to the straight lane and then pause when the light is green for going straight because they have to wait for the pedestrian crossing to be clear. The number of times I have wanted to clip that idiots wing mirror with my boot...

Next time block the in and refuse to move. When the driver complains, reassure them you will only be there a short time.

Personally if I see commercial vehicles in courier parks I photograph and email the photo to the council.

Maybe she just found out her daughter has cancer, or just got fired, or was rushing to deliver a freakin' package to the airport but missed it cause of traffic and now some kid in a different place won't get their overnight blood delivery? Maybe she's upset about that, because she was trying hard to make it knowing the contents of that package?

No one, I'm pretty damn sure courier drivers included, wakes up in the morning and says "Hey I want to do a terrible job at work today and annoy all my clients."

Everyone tries to do a good job, sure some people don't manage that very well.

Maybe she's sitting at home right now, not real proud of herself either.

Or maybe she is just a horrible cow. Either way, I'd let it go.

Fundamentally yes they do. 'Most' rules are based on the legal definition of a "road", which includes any place the public have access, whether as of right or not. A open carpark such as a supermarket or shopping centre is most definitely a road.

Enforcement is a whole other conversation.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

That's a common misconception. A road includes (Road Trasnport Rule (Road User) 2004) any place to which the public has access; whether as of right or not.

It's also illegal to park backwards in a car park ...

IANAL but it seems to me that the usual angle park has its direction indicated by being angled toward the traffic flow. Reverse parking then would force you to drive in the wrong direction to get out. If the parks are at a greater than 90 degree angle you would be required to reverse in. Many local Authorities want reverse angle parking but the hand wringers say it will be too hard for to incompetent ignoring that these same drivers have to reverse out into traffic already.
I believe a carpark situation with all parks at rt angles to the traffic is equal opportunity.

6.13 Parking at angle
(1)
If the road controlling authority has indicated that vehicles may be parked only at an angle to the direction of the road-way, a driver must not stand or park a vehicle (other than a cycle) otherwise than in accordance with the direction indicated.

Let's just say that in life, things are almost never how they appear to be. I've learnt enough to know that no matter how crazy it seems, always give someone the benefit of the doubt. Unless they're Donald Trump.

I wasn't specifically out to say the courier was in the wrong. But she was.it does seem unreasonable to have a go at someone for what is most likely unintentional in a car park with lots of space.

Saying "excuse me I was about to back into that park" would be better. Choosing another park from the dozens immediately adjacent would be best.
