In todays neighbourhood watch bulletin..

"Only one residential burglary was reported - on Ranch Road - where a house was entered while the occupants were out and a sky decoder was stolen."

Kids I guess.

No, must be old people. I do not think kids would know how to use Sky these days!

Dumb murderers. Nothing funny about this one at all but it really bothers me on more than one level and I need to bring it up (as in, vomit).

A really dumb and completely immoral pair of imbecile cousins murdered an Indian IT student in my district who was looking for love on-line. From the information available he sounds like a thoroughly decent type who just wanted a girlfriend. The young girl who drew him in seems to have had murder on her mind from the beginning. She roped her equally young (and dumb, and evil) male cousin in to do the deed. They all drove out into the country in the Indian student's car and he was beaten to death there. They seem to have wanted to steal his car and mobile and maybe one or two other trinkets.

A completely sordid and depressing tale. That is bad enough. But apparently the two brainless conspirators discussed in endless detail their evil intentions by text on their phones before, during and after their brutal crime. They were even texting each other about it from the front and back seats of the car, making it particularly easy for the police to reconstruct a minute by minute account of their bloody night's activities.

I really feel for the poor Indian guy and his family. I'm sure he did nothing to deserve an end like this. He was probably just lonely in a strange land. I'm equally sure there was an inchoate element of racism in his selection as a victim, no doubt because he was 'different', an outsider. I find all this pretty depressing. But I also find it depressing that this country is capable of producing inbred brutes like this so dumb, so ignorant, so deaf and blind and untouched by the two or three days they must have spent at school, that they didn't even have the minimal brainpower to realise that everything they were texting to each other was also being recorded for posterity. There cannot be many criminals who do not understand the basic rule of crime that a public telecommunications network is not the place to leave incriminating evidence. People this dumb do not deserve to exist.

I heard about that one on the news. Such pointless nihilism is fairly hard to understand.

When I think about boat people prepared to give up everything to risk coming to Australia and New Zealand, I find it hard to say they don't belong here more than the people mentioned above.

As terrible as this is, what really scares me is: this is like their "criminal training wheels". Now they know what not to do, if they go to jail they will probably learn to be much more effective criminals I.E how not to get caught.

For what they did I do not think they should ever be let out of jail, but of course that is too much to hope for. Next best is unending assault by other prisoners. That is also a lesson.
