Thanks, I'll digest this later, but probably related is the news that Chennai has a severe water shortage. You would expect that as ice retreats in the Himilayas, and that the snow cap slowly rises in altitude, that the aquifers got to a point where the slowly increasing demand has quietly rolled past the slowly decreasing topup
kingdragonfly: Trump administration rolls back Obama-era clean air rules
CNN
"The Environmental Protection Agency has rolled back Obama-era clean air rules in an effort to keep President Trump's promise to help the coal industry."
I applaud Trump for his work on emission standards. Reducing them to lower, then lower than gutter level has been achieved.
IF his Marketing 101/Stupid Americans get him re elected, the rest of us, as in first world countries need to revolt. This is beyond stupid.
I dont mean that as angry. At some point the globe has to tell him to be like that line of people a mile away. The far queue.

Doesn't matter who or how many people or countries tell him. If it differs from what he "believes" then it is clearly lies.
That's the problem with being stupid, you don't know that you are.

There is a post on neighbourly about acquiring and installing a diesel home heating system. The replies were very informative, but not one about why don't you use something that is no or low emissions? So I did, but its a small sample of disintrest
Here's a recent article (27 June 2019) about NZ's increasing household emissions:
Short extract from above:
Stats NZ says household emissions increased by 19.3 percent between 2007 and 2017, mainly due to rising emissions from road transport.
On Thursday, the official data agency said New Zealand households are becoming less efficient at managing the emissions they produce.
Massey University sustainable energy and climate mitigation Professor Emeritus Ralph Sims said the findings were "deeply concerning" and New Zealand had a major problem.
"The pending climate change legislation (now long overdue) will be essential to start to bring our emissions down but it will need strong regulations urgently imposed to make a difference in the short term," he said in a statement. "And time is running out."
It's worth reading the full article and noting the views of Professor Sims.

My wife and I agreed a few years ago we should do what we can as we can. So far, we switched out the larger petrol car for a 998cc VW UP! that is much more fuel efficient than the old car. We also bought an electric car and we use that for most of our driving unless we have to be in different places. The EV is probably our largest single emissions reducing action. We paid more than we had ever paid for a car before......by 300%. But it has been hugely worth it because the EV is so cheap and reliable. I also try to use the train when its convenient as we live very near a train station (itself a deliberate choice). We had most of the gas appliances in the house deleted.
Moving along, we have bought a sunny house in a town outside Auckland and we will soon be installing solar panels and battery storage there. I'll shortly be ordering a Tesla Model 3 and selling my 30kWh LEAF to someone who needs it. The idea is to not burn anything and not cause anyone else to burn anything. We're almost there.

Perhaps this thread should be confined to NZ issues ...there is a Trump thread on the "political" forum.
There are local climate change deniers....and do-nothings (adds up to the same thing). We should reference those if we need to.

Chennai is far from the Himalayan watershed. Anyone along the Ganges will be affected, certainly, but Andra Pradesh and Chennai are too far south. They will suffer from the failure of the monsoons.
