Yes, as you now, I know what a Lockwood home is. But its not wood interior, and exterior and roof and wood windows. A friend has one, brick exterior, coloursteel roof. His doesnt have issues either. But a fully wooden house would change for the worse over time, just as weatherboards did, and Id never have a wooden roof.

 

However, yes there are many things that can be done, if anyone wanted to, but the powers that be dont seem to be going down that track. What they could be doing is what is planned for lower emission cars. penalise certain materials (that have a green equivalent) and give those penalties off the prices of green alternatives. I think thats a good idea. Its achievable.

Nice. Bricks are they that CO2 intensive? Sure they will be CO2 used as is the case with wood, but be interesting to know the levels for permanent material exteriors. Whats better and whats bad. Unsure why shingles never took off here, in the US they are everywhere.

Remember its not all about CO2 it is also about sustainability which of course is about CO2 and other pollutants and diminishing resources.  The use of wood, earth, straw etc in the construction of homes is sustainable. Build a house, plant some trees and the next house is on its way. However there is a caveat to building with timber and that is NZ needs to stop the stupid practice of clear felling our forest and use sustainable management practices like selective logging. Trees are one of the most sustainable products on the planet if used sensibly and we have an abundance of places to grow them. 

 

At the moment we clear fell them, plant less than we harvest and ship the logs offshore to buy them back as tables and chairs.

Our iron roof is nailed to a solid timber sub-roof. Attaching the shingles with a waterproof membrane between would seem to be relatively simple. We also intend to cover a big percentage of the roof surface with solar panels.

We want to change ours also, but no rush. Bought the current car when it was  6 months old. 10 years ago. Not paying an excessive EV premium, but happy to wait to see how new models, prices go over next 2 years. We tend to buy very near new and keep for a good while, so I dont want to buy an ICE now as that will take  us out of the market for a good while. Will wait and see what happens

Must be 100% identical in every way to a current vehicle. So must charge in 5 minutes or less, must do at least 800km per charge, must be available in any vehicle form I might choose (ie new Land Rover Defender through to Subaru Forester) and the charging stations must be at least as frequent and accessible as the current petrol station network.

You forgot "Must be able to refill/recharge quickly on the side of the road from a portable container if for some reason range drops to zero"
