Here we go... Another Trademe rant (about success fee refund changes).

They used to have, IMHO a good system, where if the trade failed, the options were something like...
-Buyer did not make contact
-Buyer refuses to complete trade
-Mutual agreement not to complete trade

Now they've changed that, presumably as a revenue grab because the process is so slow and difficult, I can imagine people being like "I can't be bothered for $2/$5/$x".

I had a listing clearly stating pick up only, with a list of places I'm prepared to deliver to in person at my expense, yet i had a guy click the buy now (and choose "I intend to pickup"), then ask for it to be couriered. He is in the wrong, he did a work around to be able to buy a pickup only listing.

So I requested a success fee refund, and there are only 2 options, one being "The trade will not be going ahead", and no option to state why. Within minutes I get an email from Trademe, that they will not be giving me a refund as it is I who won't complete trade!! With a lecture about how people like me shouldn't put things on the site unless I have intention to follow through. I replied to this but it will take 3-5 days to get a reply. They are pretty quick with the new system to say we are keeping your money, but very slow righting their wrongs and refunding it.

The issue with refunds on TM, that youre  (almost) always at the mercy of the buyer, regardless of the options that TM give you.

 

The buyer gets option to say that trade is continuing although you've stated it isn't and it just drags out, and in the end you do give up. Only winner is TM.......

Facebook! Are you for real, that is so full of abusive morons and scammers, but this brings to mind a question I've been wanting to ask for some time on this site, why don't we all use Allgoods?
If everyone that lists something on trademe put the same thing on the Allgoods site we would have serious competition, right or maybe not....

No buyer or seller protection on Facebook Market. Maybe not as much of an issue for some as others.

In the future I'd just put an exorbitant shipping rate - $100, if they ignore "Pick up only" then they can foot the bill.

I mean, I dislike using trade me but the FB market place is a cesspit for Tyre kickers, scammers and low ballers. I much prefer alternative options like GZ, GP etc

I think Trademe is not too bad on balance - certainly better than FB.

However after selling something last week, I received an email from them just now saying my account was in debt by $14 after the recent success fee and that I should clear it now. Given the vast periods of time when they have had free use of my money when the account sits in credit, I feel quite justified in letting the debit sit for a while - a bit of payback.




Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Only problem with that philosophy is (a friend of mine had this happen to him) if you leave it there too long, they'll disable your account.

the change is odd. Surely you can contact them to correct them? It look to be a new move, so maybe they haven't properly tested it.

Contacting them is like sending a message to a rock! Also it's $2 a minute to call them, so you pay to correct a mistake made by them, it'll fall on deaf ears. As one has already stated they are so quick to email saying you owe them but drag their feet when you want a refund of the success fees, with no competition they basically can do as they want.
