I have a love-hate relationship with Africa. It gets played so much, however, recently I heard a cover of it I liked, but I can't find out what it was as it was part of spotifys made up on the fly lists when your current playlist ends.

You need to be diligent adding tracks to your liked selection.  I use play (now YT) Music, it's much easier to delete a track that you added from an auto playlist than it is to find something again.  I get a bit lazy at home with HTPC, for some reason if I'm listening via phone and cans when out walking etc it seems easier to pull my phone out and add the track.

Yeah, though to be honest, it's pretty rare for me to listen long enough to run out of tracks on my playlists. I only found the like function last week! I wasn't looking for it before, but yeah I have been using it a bit.

One thing that really annoys me about Spotify, is that there is no easy way to see what you history of played music is. I found where to see it (which isn't obvious at all) but it's also not accurate and is quite short. I think it should show your last 100 songs played.

I'm listening to music my phone is set up to automatically display "playing now" (using "what's this song") on the lock screen, but I can go into settings and see the history of what the phone heard and added.  But I don't think music I play when using the phone is added to the list. It is when I'm logged in to YT music on the HTPC and the phone logged into the same google account is listening.

I have no idea if the google algorithms use that (in combination with what you're actually listening to on play or from music files) to compile auto playlists.

So I can go into my phone and see music playlists of a party I was at a month ago.

I let my phone do this because I fully trust Google to do the right thing with all the other stuff I do that they listen to. (/s)

(edit: the setting says "When music is playing nearby, you can see the song name and artist. Now playing works offline and never sends songs or conversations to Google".  It's probably more trustworthy than a Samsung TV, IMO)

Hendrix's version of Bob Dylan's "All along the Watchtower" isn't too shabby...

Dylan's version of Muddy Waters' "Trouble No More" and then covered by lord knows how many blues artists, renamed and slightly tweaked into "Someday Baby" won Dylan a Grammy.  It's also not too shabby.

Whisky in the jar and Turn the page (Metallica).   The whole reload app is pretty good if you like NWOBHM.

The disturbed cover of Sound of Silence (especially the live version with orchestra)

Lemonheads cover of Mrs Robinson

Chris Cornell cover of Nothing Compares to You

AC/DC cover of School Days

Eddie Vedder and Beyonce cover of Redemption Songs

The Cardigans and Tom Jones cover of Burning down the House (really love the video with Nina Persson having a ball grooving with Tom Jones)

And now for something completely different ... Apocolyptica (a cello quartet) did an album of Metallica covers.  This is my favourite album for fishing.

Metallica covers.

I never liked Metallica much - but everything is better when there's banjo:

I know some consider anything other than the originals for music to be sacrilege, but occasionally, I'll hear a remake or remaster or different take on a song and like it as much if not more than the original.

I just love Pentatonix and have quite a few of their covers (including their Christmas albums) but this is, I think, their best.

The two covers that immediately popped into my head:

Darcy Clay - Jolene

Johnny Cash - Hurt
