In a recent powercut (which took tooooo damned long to fix!) my girlfriend and I spent hours playing both Exploding Kittens with a few of the addon packs as well as the Connect 4 card game - much more enjoyable than the game with counters. Might not be the most complicated card games ever but I do find both quite enjoyable.

And to top things off the cat managed to keep all his whiskers this power cut.  I learnt my lesson, hes too dumb to not sniff lit candles..  :p

We've been playing Munchkin which is a quick, fun game for the family. The ability to backstab people cannot be underestimated hahaha.

Munchkin cover

Also enjoying Dungeon Mayhem: Monster Madness that my teenage son recommended (as his mates play it). A great little game that we had at the table over the Xmas and got a lot of good feedback from the family.

Rummikub.
Play with numbered tiles.
Simple to play but needs more strategy once you get familiar with it.

Have you tried Rummikub With A Twist? More Jokers: double, colour change and a nasty Mirror joker.

That's another way to get new games, you modify existing ones, leading to things like Combat Monopoly. OK, so you've got a hotel on Park Lane, let's see what a Fireball spell does to it.

Playing Rommé with eight jokers instead of the usual six also makes it a lot more interesting, if you're really lucky you can end the game in the first round and get a 4x score.

We often take the jokers out to stop them being hoarded as a strategy.

Doesn't that then take all the fun and strategy out of the game? Without the jokers it just turns into a mechanical grind.

We have played peasant recently. Kids really like it esp my daughter. She loves monopoly but we have a self modified version with a 90 minute limit.

Pandemic has been great fun, and is co-op.

We have Catan and Ticket to Ride but never get around to starting them.

My wife and I used to enjoy the odd evening playing Yahtzee and rarely make the time above other priorities these days. Should revive it.

We sometimes use more jokers and other variations, but sometimes its difficult to keep everyone happy with various game flows possible.

Depends on who in the family is playing, they all have different setup preferences |-)

I've started playing a card game called Bolivia with mum and her friends.

It's a Canasta type game.

I'm quite enjoying it, and the oldies don't mind pulling a swifty on the newbie! but I'm getting better!

Played a couple at a mates house the other week

Muffin Time - Seems simple, start with 3 cards in your hand, to win, have 10 cards at the beginning of your next turn

Joking Hazard - for non PC players...

Codenames - Good little game

Ticket To Ride is a fun and fast game, kids enjoy it - I have the New York edition.

Catan can either be brilliant, or be a friend killer :D Really got to have the right group to play it with ;)

Had some friiends over to play some games last night.
Got to try a new game I recently brought - Sniper Elite.

This is a hidden movent game themed on the video game.
One person played the sniper who's is sneaking into a enemy base to reach two objective locations.
Up to three others play guards who move about the map hunting the sniper down.
The sniper had their own separate map to mark their moves on and only put their figure on the main board if spotted.
The sniper can be blocked and trapped.
And if all goes bad the sniper can shoot their way out of trouble.

If was a fun game where the guards had to use their abilities and work out where the sniper was.
The guards won after the sniper had reached one objective.
We closed in and took him down.

Looking forward to playing it again.

Great theming and fairly short, 45 mins.
Gave us plenty of time to play other games after.

Scrabble Harry Potter Edition. It's a fun twist on the original. You can steal tiles, get bonus points, spell words backwards, and borrow a blank if you have the letter it represents on your rack (among other things). Think I got it for $20.
