mattwnz: Buy an overpriced house and you are stuck paying a mortgage for much of your working life, [...] more and more people are following the FIRE principles.

Buy an overpriced house, set FIRE to it, and go on an extended cruise with the insurance payout?

Instead of trying to run a signal over unknown-quality mains wiring, why not get directional WiFi antennas off Aliexpress and use a wireless link?  Or buy two used Ruckus APs from TM and use the beamforming to do the same thing?

To be honest I thought a wireless solution would be outside the budget, and I also don't know enough to know what to look for, but a quick Aliexpress search of directional WiFi gave some very cost-effective solutions. That's very helpful, cheers.

Do kids (say under 10 years) need their passports signed? If yes, can an adult sign it instead?

OK just found out the answer. The answer is yes. So, for argument's sake, how does a 6 month old sign their passport?

I thought that kids up to 18 months could travel on their mother's passport?

Not these days. Hasn't been that way for a couple of decades.

I looked up Spark’s WiFi calling page. It states

”If you're currently located overseas or if you're using a VPN Service in NZ, you may not be able to use Spark WiFi Calling.” (My underlining for emphasis).

My question is, does wifi calling to NZ from Australia work on a Spark number? The OneNZ website says theirs does.

I’m well aware of Aussie roaming, so don’t bother suggesting I use that instead.

I didn’t want to start a whole new thread in the Spark forum.

Gummint ban on cellphones in class started today? Some are wondering if that includes smart watches... but I expect not. Watches don't have quite the same disruptive aspect of phones as they are not so useful for watching youtube, taking and sharing pictures, social media bullying and so on.

My son's and daughter's schools both already prohibited cellphones during the school day... and it seems to work well.

From ten seconds of googling it looks like the wording is that kids can’t “access” a cell phone - so I’d imagine that covers a smartwatch linked to one.

Our son has already been shown porn on another kids watch.

I went looking for the article I saw earlier, only to find this one

Nationwide school phone ban comes into force today. Will smartwatches provide a loophole? - NZ Herald

Did I see somewhere here someone asking about a weird SIM pop up on their phone?

I have been asked the same question.

Why do I like Felafel wraps so much? It's not like they are pepperoni pizza (which is the greatest food on earth).

Some of the kids smartwatches have parent configurable features. In some cases they are used for medical or behavioural reasons. Cellphones are used for similar purposes and tend to be cheaper, but custom configuration for cellphones is not easy or simple to say the least. Presumably the legislation is flexible enough to allow school discretion where needed.
