Probably would be more expensive if it was the real stuff from Germany.

Doesn't have to be. It is excellent pilsener beer.

More and more local microbreweries are being swallowed up by international corporations and even beer labelled "brewed in accordance with the German purity law" is mixed with chemicals during the brewing process, which are removed again before bottling. Unfortunately, much of it has become fake and a unique dead broth.

Why would Microsoft lay off 10's of thousands of jobs for cost reasons and then issue a bonus of ~~25% to it's remaining staff?

I mean, I can surmise reasons, but it seems fairly counter intuitive.

Because those people were no longer needed.

A simple enough explanation on the surface, until you hear talk to people at MS and deal with MS Support and things are SO bad there because there simply aren't enough people to do the work.

A lot of their support isn't in house anyway. You'll usually find it comes from a v- email account.

The people being moved on generally aren't working in supporting existing products. They are working in parts of the business that are not performing or are not a focus for the future.

Really big organizations aren't one cohesive company. They are a collection of diverse units all doing their own thing.

How can a plane fall out of the sky like that. Everything I've ever been told by everyone is that it simply can't happen.

That's frightening.

I am no pilot and I have no specialist knowledge, but I believe it has to do with the plane's ability to generate lift. There has to be sufficient air flow across the wings to keep it flying. If it stalls, it drops, and if it drops backwards or in a horizontal position, there is no air flow over the wings to regain control. This creates an almost impossible situation. The plane has to fall nose down for the flight controls to start working again. Again, I have no specialist knowledge but this is my understanding of how it works. News reports indicate that the plane might have stalled due to icing problems.

Yeah, I mean it's definitely a speed problem because how you generate lift is by having greater airflow across the wings, it just feels quite an extreme loss of speed. In my inexperienced take on this, if I was losing air speed, I am going to drop my nose, and 'glide' to the ground. I'm probably still going to crash and die, it just wouldn't look as horrifying as that did. Perhaps the Pilot ignored the warning signs for far too long. I am not a pilot, that video just made me feel sick to my stomach.

Here in NZ that stopped happening a few years ago. After an initial round of acquisitions of craft breweries to build a portfolio the big brewers now prefer to build on these brands rather than acquire any more. Makes it difficult for those small craft breweries whose exit plan was to get acquired... Hence a number of small brewers going out of business recently rather than selling up (no one will buy them).

Edit: spelling.

There's nothing in the story saying it fell out of the sky (well, apart from in the obvious literal sense), it was just a crash. We'll find out the details in time.

There's a reasonable amount of information out already. The Blancolirio site on YT has a good summary.

how do you drop your nose when you dont have enough airflow over the wings?

that plane appeared to be in a flat spin, which can be quiet difficult to recover from.

I wasn’t sure whether to start a topic in the Spark forum, so I’ll try here first.

We are travelling to the UK for an extended period. When I look at how much of my admin requires 2FA on my phone (Spark NZ number), I’m wondering what happens if my phone is lost or stolen? Easy enough to buy a replacement phone while away but how do I set it up with my same phone number?

Are phone NTUs still highly sought after or have they joined the dinosaurs?
