Every now and then Facebook throws up a gem:

If the USA is so great, why did they make a USB?

Our water comes from a spring and has a very high mineral content. Because of this we have a rainwater tank for the hot water system. When that tank runs low, what is the best strategy to minimise calcification of hot water devices like the cylinder and wetback? Is it better to mix spring water with the remaining rain water or use up all the rain water and then switch to undiluted spring water or does it make no difference?

Could you get a water softener system to allow you to use the spring water?

If I could I would. Not a practical option for me on this old farm. The rainwater system works fine most of the time. Anyway, my question still stands.

Diluting it is going to give you the same amount of minerals over a longer period of time, so I would only do it sparingly, when you had to.

Ultimately, the damage is done by the amount of spring water you use. Whether you use 1000L straight from the spring, or 1000L mixed with 9000L of rain water, there is still the same amount of minerals in it.

Bottle it and sell it as healthy raw water (tm), then use the proceeds to get decent water trucked in?

A while ago someone posted a link to chorus website that tells you who your ISP is. Does anyone know what it is?

Im changing over ISPs and want to see if its happened as we have not had any outage today.

That's what I thought might have happened but it seems to have changed without any outage so all good.

Should have at least dropped the connection, unless you were with a reseller and gone to the same product stack.

who did you switch from/to

Checking who your IP address is registered to should tell you which ISP you're using, unless (as above) you're switching from one brand/reseller to another of the same underlying ISP

Why is Mainland cheese so idiotically expensive? Is that in any way justifiable or is it just profiteering? And has anyone noticed how they keep fiddling with weird package sizes? Hidden price rises, much? 700 grams, 800, 500, do they still do 1 kg?

I despise the dairy industry in NZ (not farming). Their argument for our stuff going overseas is that they get more money for it overseas, but how can that be when you can buy NZ cheese in a supermarket in the UK for 30-50% less than buying the same IUY(&#^)$R^)(*$ here.
