... Because pothole repairs, resealing, fibre, water, gas, power, and layout changes are all different projects, run by different contractors, on many cases for different clients? Probably run by competing private contractors and TTMS firms.

Combining separate projects also has H&S implications and leads to complexity higher than each individual project, plus you need to go back to the RCA (council/NZTA) to change the traffic plan.

Ok so small question - I have started running an older laptop (Intel 7th gen, Kaby Lake) under load 24/7 for $reason.

Should I be concerned about the risk of catastrophic failure of the lithium-ion battery?

I have no reason to suspect the battery has been physically damaged in any way (device appears in decent nick).

It's one of those laptops where the battery is a real pain in the arse to remove, but not impossible.

Not unless you drive a nail into it or something. If it's the original, not some dodgy swapped-out one off Aliexpress, you should be fine.

Catastrophic failure, probably not. Significantly reduced life, yes.

If you can, configure it to charge to not more than say 50%.

It's already at the point where it lasts only 20 minutes at most. So just taking up space, possibly a microscopic bit of power to keep it trickle charged?

If you're running it 24/7 under load you presumably will have it plugged in 24/7, so as @SomeoneSomewhere suggested set it to not charge fully (if it's even still capable of that) and just treat it as a slim desktop, ignoring the presence of the battery.

Next question, why do laptops have annoying plastic clips keeping the case on when it is already attached to the body with 17 screws?

Anyone else in Auckland with mild allergies, find they are sneezing a lot the last 3-4 days? I was fine before that, seems to have come on suddenly. I don't have an official diagnosis, but wondering if it could be allergies.

If personal experience is anything to go by, maybe the manufacturers (rightly?) assume that most of the screws will be lost the first time the user takes the back off...?
