Hi Board Gamers,

Does anybody own Settlers of Catan, and would you be willing to lend it out for a couple of weeks?
I'm a responsible adult, have no issue providing my name and address etc, and am happy to pay for couriers both ways if you are not in Auckland, to ensure safe passage.

IQToys currently has it on sale for $60, which is the cheapest I've seen it, but I just don't have 60 bucks spare to buy a game that I've not played before.

Also, if you do own it, how much benefit are Expansion Packs?
I see the 5/6 Players pack (36 bucks!), presumably this is just literally an expansion of the orignal game, to allow for more players.

There's also "themed" expansion packs like the Barbarians and Traders expansion pack, but at $79 this is more than the original game itself?!? I see there's also "Seafarers" and "Cities & Knights". Has anyone bought these?
Would one wait til the original game becomes limited before looking at expansion packs?

And finally, any reviews of the game itself?

Thanks,
Joseph.

Thanks for pointing out that it is on sale at IQToys, just ordered it. I think it is a great tabletop strategy game, and highly recommend it (if you're into that kind of thing). Thankfully it normally lasts 1.5 -2 hours, unlike the game of monopoly I just finished playing :P. Not a real review though sorry.

It is a fun game if you have friends that are like minded....  get someone who gets bored easily etc and they'll ruin it for all unfortunately :(

While on the subject of board games ( thread hijack alert ;) ), anyone live on the North Shore who'd be keen on playing Escape From Colditz ? Ive owned this classic board game for a few years now and have problems finding people who are keen to play..... my mates I used to play it with, are all out South Auckland and too lazy to come visit me to play ;)

Or play the game online....
http://www.playcatan.com/

Just an idea. It looks and is played like the real game in a downloadable client with other players online.

I have a copy and it is awesome. If price really is a problem perhaps check out trademe? probably could get it for half it, would be well worth it (because seriously now, after paying for courier each way the extra dollars for the game itself wouldn't be that bad)
