Hi! My mother and I want to travel to Greytown during the week and do  some shopping and return the same day. We have looked at trains but  there seems to be long waits between bus and train connections. Is it possible to catch a taxi from Woodside station to Greytown? What's the best way to do this?

Thanks!
Jenny

WOW Jenny this is off topic would you not be better off asking the taxi companies.

Tip: Don't ring economy taxis

Thought this was the offtopic forum?  I tried talking to the train company and said there was a connecting bus but the wait between connections is often 1 to 2 hours. Was just hoping someone who lives out there might know something?

This has to be the most off topic post in the off topic forum so far. Well done Jenny.

Im sure there will be taxi companies listed in the yellow pages you could ring. Or maybe there is somebody lurking around that might know

Yes you are correct this is off topic and there is no issue with that (never said there was)

But if the companies that run the services can't answer your question how are some geeks.

Good luck I hope someone can help here

It looks like Woodside / Greymouth are only for commuters, because there's only one bus early in the morning, and one in the afternoon: http://metlink.org.nz/timetables.php?route=204&mode=bus

These will certainly not be good for you if taking the train: http://www.tranzmetro.co.nz/timetable.aspx?sLineId=5&sFromId=1&sToId=66&sFromStation=Wellington&sToStation=Woodside&sDay=Today

You probably will have to catch a taxi for this part of the trip.

Mauricio, thanks very much. I could only find one cab company that serves Greytown but will give them a call.

John, mum says she would love a home-cooked meal. What do you cook? Laughing

JennyK welcome to Geekzone, please dont feed the Geeks, they are known to bite now and again :-)

I have found that when you need a lift somewhere, and dont know anyone, just offer a stranger with a car $20 for a ride somewhere, most poeple are pretty obliging (i have done this quite a bit actually, it really does work if you are brave enough to try).

I would suggest that being a female (wild assumption here), you be very selective about who you ask for that sort of favour!!

Im sure a local taxi company would provide a cab for you....

JennyK, did you assume that with all their portable gadgets that Geeks actually travel?

Depending on the cost of the taxi you might want to check-out training to Featherston or Carterton where you may find more access to buses rather than trying to get close to Greytown first.

Thanks for all your advice. Looks like we will catch a train and then a taxi to and from.

I am not sure if this is appropriate so please feel free to delete if it isn't, but someone might find this useful. This seems to work well for automatic Gmail invites http://gmail.afraid.org/
