@ubernoob: You realize that above the text you've blacked out there's a map with a pin and street names right? :P

Yes. Thanks for noticing, but we all have to start somewhere don't we. This is the first time I've tried inserting a picture to my post so for me this was a successful trial Smile

Fair enough :) Sorry no offence intended it was just a little tongue in cheek observation.

That is a bummer about the UFB coverage, so close but nothing for 2015 or 2016.

Living in Christchurch and had the cabling installed in our street a few months ago.  The "fibre access point" cable was placed at the boundary edge a month or so ago and (as they do in Christchurch) buried awaiting testing/activation of our part of the network.

My question is - how long did you have to wait from the fibre access point cable being laid/buried to being able to get UFB actually installed?  Particularly interested in anyone from Christchurch's experience.

The Enable website has an address checker and for our address (Regent's Park) it has been saying "coming in the next 3 months" for at least 3 or 4 months now.

Also, as an aside, my download speed on ADSL has dropped from 9-12mbs to 2-3mbs over the last month or so (currently with Telecom on their 500gb package) - anyone in Christchurch also experiencing this or experienced this just prior to getting UFB (purely coincidental I'm sure).  It's been a nightmare for streaming MLB or other overseas content.

Last query - as mentioned, I'm currently with Telecom and would prefer to stay with them, however does anyone know whether they will have a UFB offering for Christchurch out in the next few weeks as otherwise I'm off to Snap.

We are in a similar situation as you Otagolad, FAP installed about 2 months ago, and not a lick of activity since. The Enable address checker originally slated our area for end of June 2013, now been pushed back to end of August 2013. An ex-workmate had his FAP installed about 3 months before service became available to him (in Bishopdale).

Have you give Snap a call and have them to check your address up?

@kingjj - thanks for the reply.  Frustrating isn't it having it so close without an actually date to work off.  By the way, have you done anything to get ready for the install e.g. put a cabinet in the house/patch panel/switch/laying Cat5e/6 cable (if not there already) - keen to understand what the best thing to do is.

@D1NZ - I have rung Snap and they simply say the same as Enable that it is within three months.  Its like the longest night before Christmas, except you don't know what day Christmas will actually be. Laughing

We received our Enable branded Weetbix box in the mail yesterday proudly telling us that fibre is now available in our street and to head to their website to find a provider. The two residential providers listed on Enable (Snap and Orcon) both still show our address as coming soon. Anybody know how long it takes for the providers database to be updated to reflect Enables?

Otagolad, we have not done anything yet to prepare. We are not intending to be in our house for more than another few years and currently have simple needs internally so we will be doing a basic install until needs change. The current plan is an install in a hall cupboard with a single Cat5 connection to the lounge where a Wifi access point will be situated. That's sufficient for us at present.

Anyone who has posted a screen shot showing when Chorus was planning UFB in their area, should probably re-post again now; since Chorus have removed all of the red and pink shades from their mapping tool.

July 2015 - June 2016.

Yet it only takes 3mins to walk to an area that has it... sigh.
