jaidevp:
qraider: Location: New Windsor, Auckland (right next to Blockhouse Bay)

Network capability: Broadband > 10 Mbps
Network upgrade scheduled: UFB deployment dates for your area are still being developed

So no VDSL or Fibre :/
Seems to be a blackhole as far as fast internet goes :(

Same area but closer to Blockhouse Bay, notice how some schools here also don't have a date, New Winsor School, Lynfield College, Marshal Laing, Halsey Drive Primary...

Schools will aready have access to a UFB network, mainly via a direct fibre link back to an exchange, so they wont show up in the future areas. If they have chosen not to use that access is up to them.

I live in Miramar in Wellington and can see the airport from my house. Yet Chorus have decided to start installing UFB into the areas near Weta in north Miramar and Seatoun later this year that have already been fully cabinetised and can get VDSL today. Yet I am exchange connected and cannot get VDSL and seem to be years away from getting UFB. It does pain me a lot to say to my neighbors that they need to get Vodafone Cable as that is the only way to get fast internet speeds. Yet I am in the one who built Telecom's UFB (and soon to be all) subscriber management stack.

Indio: The last time I checked, my Howick area was "scheduled" to be completed in 2019!!! I've just had another look and it now says "UFB deployment dates for your area are still being developed"
Imo, Telecom screwed up badly by not rolling out UFB in the main metro areas first: they would have had close to 100% uptake by now. But I guess they just want to squeeze every last bit of free money from the copper network...

Most "main metro areas" already have fairly good connections. I'd suggest that for the majority of people, these connections are sufficient for their needs, and they have no interest in UFB.

100% uptake is a pipe dream in the short to medium term, I think if you got 50% anywhere in the country you'd call it an stunning result, 30% is probably more like it.

I'm not saying this is what is happening, but rolling out UFB first, in areas where the network is failing or extremely poor is by far a better strategy IMO.

If UFB ever came to my street, I'd be amongst the first to sign up and dump my congested ADSL1, but it's not coming... frown

oxnsox: Folks with fibre.....
How long did it take for the fibre to go in the pipe once it was in the ground?

They've just started in my street and I'm keen to know how long before 8 might actually have dark fibre at the door.

If they are installing tubeing in your street - then the answer is the fibre dosent get installed untill you apply for it through an RSP and then it is generealy installed and operational withing 4 working days (That is if there are no conditioanl hold ups - eg Muti dwelling, ROW , Civils requirements, permits, access isues etc)

Dont forget that the communial network build, testing and certification for had over can be 2 to 3 mths from the first dig in the ground.

and if you want dark fibre then there must also be the equivalent at the other end

Hey Peter are you able to tell when Darlington Road is getting UFB?  The chorus website says 2016.

Telecom had a website myStreet where you could signup and they would let you know when your street would be connected. Sadly you had to have a phone number to use the service and when asked is email only acceptable they tried to sell me a phone... Telecom UFB doesn't like to use the internet for communication. But lucky the let you put in made up numbers like 06 1115556

Will ask my ISP once I see my street dug up.

Sadly never...

Congested ASAM, ADSL1 BUBA, outside UFB and RBI (DSL) areas so 300 odd families and businesses in town won't be able to enjoy all the great things that a speedy modern interwebz enables...

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Chorus, cover your eyes!

What if we got everyone in Outram in cahoots, and actively brought the connection below the commerce commission threshold? It must come pretty close some nights as it is.

The comcom limit sets a minimum of "64kbs over a 15 min period", or a speed test of 0.064 which the above is well above. Yes it may be bad... But I have seen far worse.

That would be great, but we actually need to petition them, pleading that our world ends due to their back-haul and congestion caused...

Just gave up on BF3 cause of congestion at 5pm on a Sunday, but our service is above their regulated minimum so were basically lucky to have what we've got... I had asked a number of residence some time ago about their experiences and it's as poor throughout the township...

Just a question but what are you waiting for? as your area, if started in november, would have more than likely be handed over around january

Outram would a perfect place for a community network - you've got fibre and plenty of options for deploying a community wireless network.
