We just had chorus show up to install our VDSL.
Two young guys in a beat up grey sedan (no chorus van), no tools, no test equipment or the like. I had to lend them our ladder for them to install the Cat5 in our roof.
Clearly i have no confidence now...!


They have made a switch from ADSL to VDSL, our modem was showing 13850kbps /1044kbps (Orcon) and now its showing 9340kbps / 4450kbps (2Talk) on the new VDSL service.

Has anyone experienced this?  We are about 200m from our cabinet in Sandringham, Auckland.

VDSL slower than ADSL by 3MBps!!

The wires in the roof they have cut and just twisted together by hand and crudely put some insulation tape around them, no jointers or anything?
Is this normal?

Your description of events does not indicate a successful VDSL install.

Please contact your ISP, log a fault and ask them to contact their Chorus Service Delivery Manager to investigate.

lol go me....

I thought Visionstream took care of everything up there including provisioning? Would of thought they would make all their contract sign write their vehicles too.
This sounds like Chorus work has finally come down to the level of the Sky installers. Very worrying...

This sounds like Chorus work has finally come down to the level of the Sky installers. Very worrying...


Paid per job, save heaps of money by having no tooling or supplies.......sign everyone up, there is money to be made......

This type of installation is not a true reflection of a qualified "Chorus" technician, not all have this level shoddy workmanship.

Yes its all pretty disappointing.
However, i am quite concerned about the connection speed dropping from ADSL to VDSL, from 13.5 to 9.5 Mb.
Im hoping with this poor install that Chorus can rectify and make it happen.

I'm amazed that you have an internet connection at all.
This is a cowboy install of the worst kind.
Protest to your ISP VERY LOUDLY ....

Defintely log a fault with your isp... that isnt quality and as a end customer you should have better.

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their xDSL broadband network faster and even more now as they are upgrading their rural Conklins. If your still stuck on ADSL or VDSL, why not spend $195 on a master filter install to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?

kornflake: off topic, but who do 2talk use/resell dsl from?


2Talk run their own stuff. But I guess it would be mostly Callplus gear at the core being that they are a subsidiary.

The main idea of 2Talk 'Access circuits' are to get directly connected to their core meaning they can QoS VoIP traffic between the client and their SIP servers. You can also set allocate bandwidth to only be used for VoIP. So general throughput is not as good as a standard ISP but it really tops off the product set for them.

That is so bad I almost don't believe you! Far out lol
No that is not normal, and those wires will be giving a very poor connection.

I have seen VDSL being slower than ADSL, but that was out at the very fringe of VDSL coverage area.
Your download is slower but the upload is much better.
Anyway, you should have a nice connection when some qualified installers replace the wiring
