Family members of mine live at the property in the middle of the screen (9B). I was wondering how strict the UFB maps are?

The blue areas are available now. The properties around them are able to get UFB immediately, however their property falls within the 'UFB Zones', but isn't scheduled until beyond 2016.

Just wondering if there is any chance Chorus would deliver fibre via the SE side of the property. The entrance for the property is the long driveway in the NW part of the image, however, it would be much easier/shorter for them to be connected via the SE side of the property anyway.

Would they have any shot in getting Chorus to connect them to UFB now, or are the areas shown very strict?

I'd suspect no. My reasoning is that it would involve using a shared driveway that the owner has no rights to.

I'd have to find out about access rights to the SE side. Their property has been kind of pre-divided for subdivision, with access to the 'second' property via the SE side

EDIT: Here is the GIS map from their council for the property. The 'green' property has access via the laneway that currently has UFB.

Part of the property title will include any right of way (ROW) or shared driveway you have rights to. Just because a driveway exists doesn't mean you have the right to use it.

Also (my understanding is), on a shared drive or ROW, you require consent from all other property owners to have UFB installed.

For that "sub-division" to be legal and approved by council, they will need to acquire ROW access down that drive,
(You cannot legally create a parcel of land that has no public access,) 

But back to the original problem, to get the UFB ball rolling you will have to contact an ISP, the ISPs will only work from the data Chorus provide, ( ie that map) ,

You cannot directly contact Chorus to initiate the process, so hence will not be able to get them to change the map, big catch 22.

I would expect that ultimately, even when the property officially appears on the map, Chorus will want to install via the SE ROW instead of the existing driveway anyway, if possible, as it will be a shorter run.

Apparently the water and sewerage already come in that side of the property, but assume the existing copper must not.

Just try being a bit pushy and see how far you get!
Sounds like they'll need to go off property rights, but the sewerage/water pipes sound like a reasonable enough practical argument.

During the design process the street address details are used to work out the counts for the number of connections that can be handled in the area (+ a margin for infill houseing) . Physical buildings are then checked againts the address counts - so if a property has an offical address off another street then it generly wont be included in the count (as per the chorus map) and isnt considered

Im not sure what happend about that subdivided section but It should have been in the blue area - maybe one of the Official Chorus People on GZ could follow that one up?

The 28B section doesn't technically exist yet (I don't think). It just has council approval.

I'll follow up with the family and ask about the status of that property.

I put the 28B address into the Spark address checker, and it found it (Said yes to V/ADSL, but no to Fibre), so maybe it does 'exist'

Checked with the family.

 

  • The water at least comes in via the SE ROW. They were unsure about other utilities.
  • Apparently the original access for the property was via the SE ROW. They are going to check with council if they still have rights.
If they were able to confirm they have access to the SE ROW - how would they go about asking Chorus to consider connecting the property, given that all other properties down the ROW are included? Or are they just out of luck?

They would be quite keen to get onto fibre as they are quite a distance from the cabinet or exchange (unsure which) so their ADSL speeds are OK, but not great. The other factor is that they are on a very old exchange, so don't get access to many smartphone services like Caller ID, that I believe they would be able to get once services were delivered via fibre, correct?

Old thread now, but there has been movement. Parents had to sign waivers as they are on the ROW and someone else requested install. Chorus have now run ducts to all properties down the ROW, plus one to my parents back fence, but they are still showing as not being able to get Fibre.

On the Chorus site, parents address is showing "UFB fibre up to 200 Mbps between Jul-2018 and Jun-2019"

Not sure where we go from here? They can't request fibre, but they have a duct for it that clearly isn't for anyone else.

I'd suggest trying to place an order anyway and seeing what happens. Obviously you won't be able to order online since the property is showing as not yet available, but by email or phone you might have better luck if you tell them that the duct's already there.

They can't recall. The consent form was given to them by the neigbours and they signed and returned it.
