What's the deal with Full Flavour (under the username myfullflavour) having bought two Spark's HG659 ADSL/VDSL/Fibre modems on TradeMe, and placing bids on another three?

There's nothing wrong with it, but I'm just curious as to the intentions.

They only supply routers on a loan basis so maybe flashing with stock firmware and supplying to customers - perfectly legit as there is no guarantee you'll get a new one when you sign up you could get one from the 'returned' pool - the reality is we can all come up with ideas of what could be happening but all sounds legit.

But on another note - now that FFM no longer provide a nationwide service (the VDSL nationwide service ceased some time ago) do they really need their own sub-forum - nothing against FFM it just seems that they don't really need their own sub-forum.

They aren't doing anything illegal.

This topic shouldn't exist.

They still will do the odd DSL connection, e.g. for a customer waiting for fibre, or maybe an existing customer that had multiple branch office etc.

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their xDSL broadband network faster and even more now as they are upgrading their rural Conklins. If your still stuck on ADSL or VDSL, why not spend $195 on a master filter install to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?

Noone suggested it was. An ISP buying 2nd hand routers is mildly interesting.

This.

We stopped ordering routers that do ADSL/VDSL/Fibre (Innbox V50-U) early last year and switched to a fibre-only Huawei unit with custom firmware. As far as I'm aware only Lightwire and Full Flavour are on this particular series.

It doesn't make sense to buy new all-in-one units when copper deployments are almost always short-term. Unfortunately our growth strongly outweighs the rate the short-term deployments return their hardware though this is a good problem to have.

We've got a firmware version we can load onto these HG659 and then manage them via TR-069.

We still provide a national service it's just not advertised. Most of our promotions are Tauranga/Waikato residents only.

Though I agree about the sub forum. I suggest it's renamed to "Regional ISP" so that it can encompass regional operators including the following notable providers:

- Uber (Northland)
- Lightwire (Waikato/Tauranga)
- Netsmart (Waikato/Tauranga)
- Primo (New Plymouth)
- Now (Hawkes Bay)
- Inspire (Palmerston North)

These guys, other regionals and small ISPs make up about 8% of the market.
