Slingshot allows you to use italk if you choose not to use their router. I have 100 fiber and a obitalk(brilliant unit) and fed the voice back to my house phone line.

MadEngineer:
Behodar: This is a UFB thread so if something listed is indeed VDSL-only then I'd like to remove it.

With that said, the "Advanced Configuration for Orcon" thread specifically says UFB.
... cause I've had three different Mikrotik units with the factory default MAC address on the WAN port, and no problems connecting them to my Orcon fibre connection.

It's not entirely clear - is the reference to that thread for the fact that you need to extract the password for voip or the claim that the MAC address must be specified?

That thread is talking about Orcon SIP requiring their Genius router.
I can confirm that Orcon is DHCP vlan10 any router will authenticate no problem about being a non-Genius, assuming you don't care about voice.

The footnote is indeed specifically for voice. It looks like I'll need to come up with a better way of presenting this information. Unfortunately the boss has confirmed that support for tables has been removed, so I'm not sure of the best way to present all of the data without making it too confusing.

Thanks :)

Behodar: I'll add something about tagged/untagged and ONT/RGW when I get some time.

And I haven't forgotten about this! Just haven't had a chance yet.

Well, ditto for voice.  MAC spoofing is not required for any device to log into your Orcon VoIP account.  Hell, for 5#1+'s and giggles I had my old Nokia N95 connect to it over wifi with its built in SIP client (albeit any other device gets disconnected as you can only connect with one device)

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

Regarding VLAN and UFB - I'm currently with Spark NZ but I have an Airport Extreme Base Station which doesn't support tagging. Is it possible for Spark to offer non-tagging for customers on request? if not, then if I go UFB then it appears I'll have to go somewhere else :-(

Damn that sounds like a nasty configuration - I'm checking out UFB again now that I've been told that two of my neighbours had already submitted their authorisation so it is just a matter of getting my land lord and and the remaining one to sign up for it. Worse case scenario I'll go with Bigpipe which should be good enough - I'll get it installed in my office which is the shortest route for them to take.

You can also use a Microtik to do vlan10 tag removal.

Otherwise just run the Airport in bridging mode and just disable wifi off the Huawei router but keep on using it as the router.

I'd add an extra step: Send a feature request to Apple. It's inexcusable that a relatively high-end consumer device still doesn't support common functionality.

???  Why?  Many use this combo, and many use other bridged combos of modems and routers, whats the issue with that?

I do ok with GBit LAN ports, 2.4/5GHz concurrent wifi, and AC. Plus Apple isnt 100% wifi compliant so I am using their gear . Plus I also have the LAN ports on the modem/router

Has nothing to do with working in the 90's and everything to do with the fact that not every ISP in the demands vlan tagging and many use a bog standard cable modem for their internet access.

Exaclty. It would be great if Apple did implement that, however, I use my AEBS to compliment my Apple devices (as Apple's wifi is great, but often shaky on some routers, yes, bad Apple), and to implement AC, 24/5Ghz, and yes Ill grab three bonus LAN ports.
