it's strange ,  how many rural places have a McDonalds  5 minutes away.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Like sbiddle has said before though, the comments "oh we're only 5 minutes away from the city" isn't really relevant - you can cover a lot of driving distance in 5 minutes, and it means little-to-nothing when it comes to broadband coverage. 5 minutes from Mosgiel (for example) would put you in the middle of a large dairy farming area, and you're not likely to get fibre (or even VDSL) in a location like that.

The council considers us urban for our rates. I appreciate we don't have the highest population density around here. A lot of the land is undeveloped as it is Maori trust land. I do have 2 chickens so i might need to add farmer to my job description!

So what are you planning to do about your broadband (or lack thereof)?

I am on reasonable ASDL so not all bad at the moment. Would get fibre if available and was thinking of the future (ie 4k streaming is the norm and i need to remote control my flying car). Hopefully something else will be invented by then!

I think it'd be worth contacting CFH and asking why your area missed out. It'll no doubt be something to do with zoning, but I'd be interested to know exactly what also.
