I have poor speed after switch to VDSL connection as per this thread. http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=158&topicid=201738&page_no=2#1624742

Most likely this is because I'm too far from the cabinet.

What is the most practical way for me to find out where the cabinet is, so I could sanity check the distance?

For example if the cabinet ends up being just outside of my house, then something would be very definitely wrong.

you can do it yourself

go here: https://chorus2011.chorus-new.hosting.outwide.net/network-upgrade-map

change the layer to broadband and input your address, you will be inside either a small shaded area surrounded by while lines (cabinet) or in a larger area likely with 2 different colour tones (exchange)

then using this site: https://gis.geek.nz/celltowers#chorus_cabinets

input your address and find the dot that fits inside the shaded area where your house it. if its an exchange it wont show on that map.

please remember cable length doesn't always = walking distance to the cabinet. my neighbour is closer to the cabinet than me but they have about 40m more cable than i do due to how it runs

I think we discussed it sufficiently here: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=158&topicid=201738&page_no=3#1624788

If you still have any questions please fire away. The purpose of this thread was for me to make sure that it's not crappy house wiring ruining otherwise stellar copper line. Now I know it is not.

Absolutely. That's why I was keen to find the distance out.
