fast.com ('Netflix powered') is one of two line speed test sites linked on the Chorus website.

The reported DL speeds and ping times are generally comparable with what we get on speedtest.net (~25 Mbps & 19 ms for VDSL ~1.5km from cabinet).

However, the reported upload speeds are often higher not only than the speedtest.net results but also higher than the max line speed up reported by our modem (VF supplied HG659); eg.  this morning, modem reported max upstream rate of 1.8 Mbps, which is about normal lately (alas, profile 17a).  But within minutes of that fast.com figure for upload speed was 2.2 Mbps and have had 2.5 Mbps in the last day or so.  These figures based on uploading a ~7MB file.  During the upload, interim figures are sometimes over 3.5 Mbps.  I guess the latter is due to timing fluctuations but I assume the final figure is average for the full upload?  Other times the up figure is only 1.7 - 1.8 Mbps though.

Anyone know how reliable the fast.com results are?

The max upstream figure I have seen on our modem for 17a is about 2.2 Mbps but that was a year ago.  Since then ~1.8 Mbps is the maximum I have seen upstream.

We did get more like 2.7 Mbps upstream ~18 mths ago on profile 8b but since then 8b seems no longer available.  Another issue though.

Fast.com does have a habit of slightly overshooting.
