Dochart: Talkiet,

I know in the past they use to have a fair use policy on their unlimited plans but from what you said I’m guessing they got rid of it.

I guess what he is saying is that these days, what is considered fair use given the more modern technology used to distribute the internet, you'd need to be doing a lot more than 6-13TB to have a serious impact on a decent RSP network.

I thought anything over 10TB per month would not be considered fair use but that’s great even if you were to use 13TB per month is still considered fair use.

Well, yes, definitely that. On an individual basis, a few distributed users doing that much shouldn't be an issue although it MAY affect their neighbours in some cases but it would be minor and out of the control of the RSPs anyway.

Mostly however I am incredulous how anyone can justify 40Mbps 24x7... Assuming 8 hours sleep a day, and no work to go to, and that you can prepare food and get everything delivered to your door... Thats...

thats... approximately TEN concurrent 1080P streams for 16 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Call me cynical, but I don't believe there's a sensible way to justify that sort of usage - at least not for a residential user.

And yes, if I wanted to justify it myself, I would say things like multiple 4K security cam streams streaming to a second location, and I work on remotely hosted video files as part of my job, I run speedtests every 30 seconds to make sure my provider is giving me The Performance I Pay For etc... I can technically make the case without any problem, but 40Mbps 24x7, really?

Cheers - N

Vodafone Fibre Max unlimited, and I have no idea how much I use a month.

Where do you find that out?

The great thing is I don't need to justify it.

I'm with Skinny Unlimited Broadband. Thought I'd see what my usage was but they don't provide that info. I couldn't find anything to check usage when I logged into the portal

This from their FAQ.
How do I check my usage?
None of our Skinny Unlimited Broadband plans have a data cap. So you don’t need to worry about how much data you’re using - that’s the beauty of an unlimited plan

I suppose they can't tell me off for excessive usage if they don't provide a way of checking it.

I use a few TB each month. Working from home, kids video streaming (4K), a lot of online elearning (zoom) sessions, aggressive back ups and offsite storage of dashcams.

It’s going to be hard when I go across the ditch. Going from 500mbps upload to 5mbps on Telstra velocity fibre. Ouch. May end up using hot spotting to do the dashcam uploads.
